I should post an outline for one of my completed stories, so you can see how close I stay in some ways and how far I wander in others. For anything < 5000 words, I usually fly sans outline, though. "Readings" will be about 20K words when it's done, and it has a very tight outline. "Metastasis", no outline, just in-file notes. The Buffy-POV one has a lightweight in-file outline.

Oooh, that would be cool! I read Charles Stross' blog (Sci/Fi, Hugo winner) and he just today finished the first draft of his newest novel. At 95k of 105k words suddenly this huge twist appeared that he had no clue would happen. It's crazy stuff.
