Sometimes it feels as though all the fics have been written. Particularly having come late to a (any, all) fandom, I find myself second-guessing rather a lot

I will tell you what I have told others. There is nothing new under the sun... er, sheets... whatever. If you feel you are trying to compete for new ideas with the length and breadth of the internet and all its archives, you will lose. What none of those archives have, however, is YOUR take on X, Y, and Z. It will be different than the ones that have come before, because it is yours. It is worth doing because it is yours. The idea is nothing. Execution is everything. Go forth, and loose the bunnies of plot.

I agree with your other commenter - there are only, really, four or five standard tropes in fiction anyway. It's what you do with them that counts.
