Hah! I saw that post too and stayed out of it.

I'll admit that, working at the cafe, I did start to get tired of the "so YOU'RE not from around these parts, eh?" and "Oh! An American!" and "it's SO funny how you say [insert whichever of the many words I pronounce differently than people here do], but I grew up with German parents in America who got all the same comments (plus the lovely Nazi comments as some icing on the Black Forest Cake), so it wasn't a surprise to me. Not being Madonna, I will always have my American accent so I figure I might as well get used to the comments. But what *really* cheeses me off is when people back home insist that I have somehow magically developed a Scottish accent... when all they've heard me say is "hello." WTF?

There are accents from all over the world that I like, but I wouldn't squee over trying to be friends with anyone who speaks in those accents just because of their accent. So weird!

I do hear lots of crap about America here. Some of it I can set people straight on, other bits I surprise them with because I agree with them.
