People for whom angevin2 has a total soft spot:

1. Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, because his gentleman-usher George Cavendish wrote a weirdly endearing if overly copious in intestinal-related detail biography of him, and because he makes such a fantastic exit in Shakespeare/Fletcher's Henry VIII.2. Clive Wood, because he was fucking amazing as York in the RSC ( Read more... )

Dear Globe people,

I also was very good and finished my dissertation, which talks a lot about Cardinal Wolsey and his self-presentation in a completely bizarre text also written by George Cavendish. It actually notes a possible (and otherwise unrecognized) source for Shakespeare's play. In light of this, I think that it is absolutely imperative that I see this production. I would fly to London, but I also just had a baby and she doesn't have a passport yet, so I can't. If you make the DVD available to me, I will buy two (just to make it worth your while).

Thanks,

Beth

Dear Globe people--

I would see it in person but I am supposed to be delivering a paper in Kalamazoo even though I will have been in London five days before that performance opens. I finished my dissertation and since I am looking at the ways in which historiography and legitimacy are constructed rhetorically, it is quite imperative that I see this play. If you released a DVD I would buy a copy. And probably convince my sister to buy one too because she likes Shakespeare.

Sincerely,
Kavita

I will totally buy a DVD if they film it! (Although I must confess that I am really, really hoping for 1 and 2 H4 and Merry Wives, since those are my pet obsessions.)

Anyway, I have already got the R&J and have just pre-ordered AYLI, so I am doing my bit to convince them this is a profitable venture.
