today's poem

Apr 23, 2008 00:07

In honor of Shakespeare's birthday (Observed), of course. This is one of my favorite poems ever, and it invariably makes me cry.

There will, incidentally, be more Shakespearean awesomeness shortly. Watch this space!

You're most welcome. :)

I'm not sure why it's not anthologized more, either; I found it on the RPO site.

YES WE DO BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE MADE COMPLETELY OF AWESOME

There is, btw, going to be a giant Shakespeare youtubespam, in about five minutes. That will probably cheer you up too. :D

(There is no Sam in it, but there is his dad.)

How do I not know this poem?

And oh, dear, I am such a sap...the dog made me cry *facepalm*. Lord, I'm predictable!

This is so lovely.

He treads along through Time's old wilderness
As if the tramp of all the centuries
Had left no roads -- and there are none, for him;
He doesn't see them, even with those eyes, --
And that's a pity, or I say it is.

I love those wry little Jonsonian moments throughout this.

I am suprised I hadn't heard of this before, but thanks for drawing my attention to it. :)
