Elizabeth Bennet/Mr. Darcy, Pride & Prejudice
As many of you on my flist can attest, I have this book on the brain. ;) I've loved this pairing since I first read the book as a freshman in college (would you believe that my high school British Lit class was the only class not to read this book? WTF?), and both Elizabeth and Darcy fascinated me from the beginning. Both of them had to "grow up", as it were, before they got their happy ending, and Jane Austen's portrayal of how Elizabeth had to change and how Mr. Darcy worked to improve himself was -- and still is -- riveting.
