So here's a blog post about my recent birthday trip to Mount Saint Helens.  I'm keeping it separate from here because I share my travel blogging with my family and, uh, slash isn't really a conversation I want to talk to them about so... there.  Feel free to comment there or here.

Wow, what amazing stuff! That sounds like a great trip! The Pacific Northwest has some really beautiful countryside.

So how close are tourists allowed to the mountain anyway?

You can hike up to the rim of the crater, but that's for experienced mountain climbers only. Windy Ridge is the closest vantage point without having to hike. It's 4 miles from the crater. You have to travel through all those dead and toppled trees to get to it.
