Buffy fans: A call to action!

Apr 01, 2014 22:04

Hi guys! So I have a ~friend who's watching Buffy for the first time and she's watching S3 as we speak and got thrown for a loop by Faith sexually assaulting Xander. Yeah, a trigger warning would've been much appreciated for that, right. I think she's obviously okay with violence, but warnings for sexual assault would be beneficial.

help please! )

buffy, trigger warnings, sexual consent

There's also the scene in "Gone Girl" where invisible!Buffy continues to sex up Spike after he says no. I'm not sure it's entirely unwilling, but I'd be willing to label it coercive. Actually, there's a lot in S6 that I think needs a trigger warning, but that's what's coming to mind immediately.

I'd also say that Warren's April Bot deserves a mention, and the Trio's response to Katrina (? right?). Willow's use of the Lethe Bramble to make Tara forget about their fight is definitely coercive.

And I think that's it that I remember.

I think those are all really good ones to warn about... can't think of anything else off the top of my head, either.

The bots (both of them, actually) and Katrina were two other things that came to my mind. There's a lot of coercive, or almost coercive stuff in Buffy, if you stop to think about it. Xander's spell to make Cordy love him, his attempt to rape Buffy when he was a hyena, Willow's my will be done spell causing Spike and Buffy to think they were in love and getting married, Drac's brides and their crawling all over Giles (and Riley? can't remember now), the house spell that had Buffy and Riley having sex interminably... there are probably more.

Gone? She gives spike a blow job at first before he even knows she's there/s6 invisible buffy.

Also maybe Dead Things cause she beats teh shit out of him and it's domestic abuse.

I'm pretty hard to rattle, but I remember being viscerally taken aback by the balcony scene in Dead Things. I'd also probably warn a new viewer about Willow's abuse of Tara in S6. Caleb's episodes at the very end are...maybe not visually sexual violence, but he certainly considers his violence to be sexually motivated, if you're erring on the safe side.
