Congratulations. So happy. Enjoy motherhood. It will get better once she starts to respond to her environment.

Avika is a unique name.

Thanks Deponti.. Her pics are on my facebook.. Avika means "Meaning: Avika means Sun rays and depicts charismatic personality. It also means someone as beautiful as a rose yet as strong as the earth " .. I love the meaning more than the name !! Her dad's name is Arun, which also has meaning wrt to sun, so I was happy to choose this name..

Btw, please share your thought on this .. Our first choice for the baby's name was Ava, and I wanted a little longer name and stumbled on Avika. Now, we have problem with the pronunciation part.. Ava is like A-va and so I assumed Avika will also sound as A-vika.. But many people end up calling her "aa-vika" .. I dont have a problem correcting people, but what is the correct way ? are there any rules for pronouncing people names ? I assumed its left to an individual's decision.. I would be happy to know your thoughts and views on this...

I think a change of spelling might do it... "Aveeka" might, I feel, get you the pronounciation you want. But also be prepared for "A V Kaa" :) But, are you saying "Ey-vika"? Then "Ayvika" might help...just a few suggestions.

Since you've carefully chosen a rare name, I think you have the right to tell others the correct pronounciation as well. Anjana, after 13+ years in the US, still has a sticker at the entrance to her cubicle, giving the correct pronounciation of her name, for those who say "un-joo-na" or some such! But of course, if you are ok with different pronounciations, you need not bother! Can you believe that the next-door neighbours here can't pronounce the v in "Kavya" and say "Kaya"...which is the name of Derek's parents' dog!!

Thanks Deponti for taking time to share your thoughts.. Evika would have been no confusion, but we wanted a desperate A.. and the birth certificate was done by the hosp, so its already officially Avika... and I am not very keen to test my patience with BBMP :)
One of my friends said, she will have interesting introductions as she will have to explain the story behind why her parents stuck to this spelling..
Btw, Kavya is getting cuter and cuter and I feel she will be a tall girl like her dad !! I also have seen her videos of singing Tamizh songs.. adorable :)
Many people might have already told you this, but you inspire everyone with your innumerable talents and interests.. saw your update about the singing at the temple.. yay for that..
