Totally agree with a lot of what you have said. There is no way to convey the things you've seen, heard and experienced when you're in that sort of environment, it touches you so deeply and it's completely heart breaking. If you allow it to change you, shape you and move you forward in God then it's all for the good.
I too felt completely sickened by our materialism, our waste, our seeming lack of affection and lack of desire for God. I came back determined to change and I feel that in a lot of ways I did and it really was a changing, challenging time for me. But I do agree with whoever said to you that the immediate feelings fade and you find yourself drawn back in by the society in which we live. Its very hard to escape the materialism and keep your experiences fresh in your mind when life is going on as normal.
