I've been playing about with evolving bots using Box2D for a while now. Evolution is incredible at finding chinks in the physics code and exploiting them like hell. The joints (things like pin joints, technically called constraints) can be put into a state where they fight back and forth and make the bot float along the ground like a hovercraft or they can fight more obviously and ping the bot high into the air, flailing across the screen like so much spaghetti. The fitness test is simple. How far right can you get from the starting position over flat or rough terrain. Because of this I give about 10m of terrain to the left of the bot and 250m to the right to move over. I have an amazing example of a bot that has some quite evolved looking motion, but goes left instead of right. It gets to the end of the terrain, and falls, pulling on a limb at the last moment to swing itself under the terrain and fall in a parabola to the right. With no air friction it continues to go right until it's time is up. There must have been a generation ( ... )

It is impressive what they can manage. I wonder how many laws of physics we break ourselves ;-)

Oh my god. Its so simple. Lisa sucks. Shes boring. Torturing her is fun. That guy really needed ten thousand words to say that? I said it in three sentences.

its not complicated. Everyone else in springfield (except maybe Marge) is a piece of shit, but at least theyre entertaining.

Could you help me find a link? I think it was from either you or Slate Star Codex, but I can't find it in my browser history or your link posts or his. It was about an algorithm that generated text for baby onesies saying "Daddy's Little X" for all professions. Thanks!

I love tags (had it tagged with clothing and jobs, so trivial to track down)

Yay, thank you so much!
I had looked in your tags for "babies" and "AI" (because I didn't realise you had a separate tag for "algorithms").

Lesson - I need to be more consistent with my tags!
