on anger

As of late, I haven't wanted to write. I haven't wanted to draw. And I think I've figured out why.

How did I figure this out? By observing the music I've been listening to. And since I don't know who is an arrow-shooter and who isn't, I'll explain.

See, as of late I've been really enjoying rough and intense music -- Tool (the new album is ( Read more... )

I'm impressed with your current playlist! It might disturb you to realize you're listening to all that (relatively) heavy stuff, but I think it's awesome. Then again, when given the choice I wake up listening to "South Texas Death Ride".

My thought is that if you don't want to draw/write angry things, create something that shows how destruction or violence can cause beauty. "Wildfires that clear prairies to allow new flowers to grow" type of creativity. Get it out of your system and make it something beautiful at the same time.

it doens't really disturb me so much as cause me to sit up and take notice.

You have a good idea. I wonder how to make it work.

Anger is a detriment to things that are creative, however I've found ways to channel my anger into my work and create some pretty dark and violent thins in the past. Depression on the other hand can prevent me from doing anything at all. Start writing more in a personal journal-even include sketches with it. You will find the creativity flowing again, before long.

I feel the same way as you about this. I used to listen to a lot of harder music...I was the chick on the front row at live shows banging my head into oblivion...but since I have been on this "experimental, indie, ambient, down-tempo" trip for over a year now..I have very little taste for hard rock, modern rock or any of that anymore. Don't get me wrong, I *heart* TOOL forever...Rob Zombie...System of a Down...and I still listen to them, just not all of the time. You need a good injection of Sigur Ros my friend!! Why don't you visit my myspace and take a look at my top friends, I have some I know you will love on there...just for a quick fix :P http://www.myspace.com/janezanaddict Come on back over to our side John, we need you *wink*

heh! yeah, I really dig a lot of ambient/downtempo/etc stuff a lot. I have been into that sort of thing for quite a while, too. Zero 7? Love it. Air? cool! Sigur Ros? Fuckin' A!

As far as myspace goes, I'm trying for for local folks there. Pity that noone in Austin can code HTML out of a wet paper bag ...

Any more specific recommendations?
