Looking forward to your advetures in a country I've always wanted to visit since I had a penpal there in the 90s. And given their stance on LGBT rights, I'd likely move there if I was any good at Chinese. Although Canada is higher on my list of places to move first....

Let's wait and see if i can have any adventures there... Even with my background, it's tough to find sponsorship in a country like Taiwan.

Taiwan does have one interesting immigration program that doesn't exist in Canada or many other countries. If you are earning more than us$65000 and can show recent tax records that you were employed at that salary for at least one full year, then you can apply for the so-called gold card, which allows you to live and work in Taiwan for 3 years without having any sponsorship up-front. That would be a gimme for people in my industry who worked in Canada or the US... but because i was working in China in 2019/2020, i don't meet the threshold. Still, i suppose it could be a backup option for me if i invest a full tax year just racking up the numbers. But of course that would mean i couldn't head over there for another 2 calendar years at this point.

I think of inheritance as a buffer. It is money to be invested so if you need it in the future it is there. A cushion, a way of knowing a line of financial security in the future. It was not given to you by your mom to be a burden rather as an acknowledgement of her belief you would treat it with care and it would be there later in your life.
