SNOW!

May 21, 2005 11:48

It fucking snowed in Brisbane! Well it didn't, it hailed, but everyone's calling it snow because it kicked ass. The roads were covered inches deep in little hail balls, people were making snowmen and some people even went skiing and snowboarding around Paddington and Toowoong. Took me 2 hours to get home because the Countess St/Roma St ( Read more... )

Agreed. As long as you go into it with the right frame of mind, it's awesome. The cinema down the block from my office played it on *17* screens, and sold out every one of them. I caught it at the Uptown, an old-school single theatre with a huge screen. Not IMAX, but legit 70mm / former Cinerama... Absolutely badass.

Man this one's gonna break records for takings i reckon. I was talking to the mate i went with and he was telling me his sister and him had been talking about the movie and he realized he was so trashed he couldn't remember many of the details. I was still able to stand after getting out of the theater, but, well, i don't remember a real whole lot either ;-) Love to see it again just to take it in as a movie, but hell. It was a blast to see it in a 30-person theater with bigass comfortable chairs and beers coming every half hour. And the spectacle of it! OMG. Kick ass. Love the space battles and cityscapes. Someone needs to make a movie that's ALL space battles and cityscapes hehe :-)

That place you saw Episode 3 sounds awesome... We've only got one theatre like that around here, and it's kinda smarmy. Plus, they only show second-run movies.

I think that was "Starship Troopers," from a few years ago. Absolutely *no* redeeming value, except as eye candy... The sort of movie that's no different whether you see it drunk or sober.

Ah blasphemy! Starship Troopers was rad :-) Just my kind of cheesy over-the-top sci-fi. True that it was probably just as enjoyable straight or otherwise however hehe

The best part is that Gold Class isn't just one theater. The two biggest chains in Australia (i.e. the two companies that own 98% of the theaters in the country between them) have Gold Class screens in most of their bigger multiplexes. It all started about 4-5 years ago i think. This is the first time i've been, but i gotta do it more often. Normally you pay $12 on-the-spot to see a movie, in this case it's $17-35 (depending on the screening time) in advance, but not having kids around and having comfortable chairs for my long legs is just fantastic!

Hey now... I never said I didn't like Starship Troopers! Just that it takes zero mental capacity to enjoy it - which can be a really good thing, depending on what kind of a day/week/month you've had. I'm also fond of that movie because of the pub crawl my pals and I did afterwards. I still don't know how I managed to wake up the next day...
