That sounds so hard.

I think I would still be working as I am a nurse. I worry a little as I have been having uncontrolled asthma and it gets worse when I have an infection. Im really wanting to put myself forward to get more involved as I have the experience to be useful. Over here we do not seem to be offered as much protective clothing as we were in saudi with MERs-Cov. But that may change if the situation worsens.

What is the reason given to explain why the more expensive places can open up?

I don't think it's so much that smaller restaurants are not allowed to open, more that they cannot afford to comply with the regulations.

In my village i suspect a lot of restaurants are not open because the owners still haven't been able to return from their home provinces, but there are also strict regulations in place that restaurants must have temperature checks and carry out special disinfection procedures. I wonder if the places that are open right now are skirting the regulations by not actually opening the inside of the restaurant? The 肠粉 joints are all just setting up plastic stools and folding tables on the sidewalk and serving people outside.

I would be a bit worried as a health worker right now. It seems there is a disproportionate number of health workers getting sick, perhaps due to not having sufficient protective gear. Is it like this normally? I guess for flu and hepatitis etc you can at least take a vaccine.

I think you're right about all the working-class service-industry people being fucked. One of the sage advice pieces I've seen this week talked about how we should be cooking at home rather than eating out or getting takeout. Even a modest dip in the volume of business at bars, cafes, and fast-casual eateries could be devastating for people who depend on tips, and for small businesses in general. (I'm not worried about Starbucks and McDonald's weathering the storm.)
