I think it's exactly this type of translation error that occurs in many of God's attempts to communicate directly with humans, both in the Old Testament and through Jesus. Jesus said, "The Kingdom of God is like..." about a dozen times, and some of the things he compared it to seem to make sense, and others don't so much, and I suspect there were more of the latter category that didn't get written down because they were so weird. Very difficult for an immortal being to express his thoughts in the narrow spectrum we can comprehend, I'm sure.

On a less profound note, you should look for the Disney comic wherein Gyro Gearloose invents a cat translating machine. Hilarious!

Yes, once you start thinking of translation devices from the same perspective with think of color calibration and device profiling, all sorts of interesting ideas pop up.
