I loved this author when I was in my early teens but now I can barely remember what the books were about. After listening to the podfic I have vague memories of reading about Daine communing with a whole bunch of sick birds in an aviary. And some creepy old wizard who was in love with her? Maybe?
In book three, Daine helped heal the villain's birds during peace negotiations. And her teacher, a mage who was about 10 years older than her, did fall in love with her, though she was the one who insisted they actually do something about it, lol. He was all, "But I'm too old for you!"
