Illness

So, my boy has been running a fever of 101.5+ (often +) CONTINUALLY since Friday. He's barely eaten anything, though he does continue to drink fluids on command (though not without resistance). The ibuprofin or tylenol will take his fever down for a bit, sometimes even all the way, but as soon as it wears off, the fever spikes back up ( Read more... )

I've never seen a kid run a temp THAT consistently for that long and he's just so MISERABLE. I hate the idea that there's nothing we can do but wait and keep thinking that if it goes on much longer he'll end up in the hospital (and wouldn't that SUCK) or that it'll become clear that he was sicker or more treatable all along.

Thanks. Me too. I swear he spiked at least 103 tonight when his ibu dose wore off.

oh no... I hope that Ben is better soon.

Have you tried not giving him fever meds, but a periodic cool bath? My doctor recommends trying to let the fever do it's job and kill the bug first, then we go to meds.

Given him huge from me and Ian. *sends love*

We let the fever run without interruption from Friday till Sunday afternoon, hoping to do exactly that. It totally wasn't working. Doc, on Monday morning, said to keep him medicated so he'll hopefully feel better enough to take in enough liquid to keep from getting worse.

Okay. ;-) Gotcha. Yeah, I would have done the same... taking him to the doctor after 3 days. And I totally understand giving him meds on the hope that he will feel better enough to eat something and take all the liquids he needs.

I am so glad he is feeling better. One more day and he'll be right as rain. :-)

I'm actually less than 24 hours from "officially very worried" and am starting to feel edgy about it. Course, that could be because it's half past midnight and I should have headed to bed a while ago. But I DID get some schoolwork done.

SO glad to hear Ben's fever broke. Hope he's doing better today, poor boy. When the kids are sick, I'm always irrationally afraid of the worst. My kids have never had a fever that long, but FWIW, I have--even as a kid. Several times I missed a solid week of school (or work, as an adult) because of extended fever from a virus. Doesn't make me worry any less as a parent, though!

Hugs to everyone!
