it'd good to know you liked the other two better. like i said, some dark parts i wasn't really a fan of, but by that point i had just been drawn in enough to care whodunnit.
I read the Millennium series recently (maternity leave plus pressures of being the only librarian in the world who had not read it :P) and I totally agree...the first few pages are a real blah. If I had not been bored stiff already I wouldn't of bothered getting through them.
You could try the Sookie Stackhouse books if you are after something new? They are the books True Blood is based on. I like the characters more in the TV series (and the story deviates quite a bit on TV) but its easy light reading. I think if you like Stephanie Plum books you would probably like those.
i read the first sookie book. it was okay, but i really didn't have much interested in reading more. wouldn't be opposed though. i might need to get a library card.
we have this really odd book connection. i remember finding twilight in a hostel book trade in portugal and reading it, having never heard of it, then getting online and you had read it too. i literally just finish 'the girl with the dragon tattoo.' i thought it was pretty good, and ordered the rest of the series because i think he will get better with each book (mainly because i saw a lot of random detail in the first book that must be there for later development).
i am now finishing 'zeitoun' by dave eggers. it is my first book about katrina, and i thought it was a novel until i started it. i have flown through it thus far. brings back a lot of memories, but i love the book.
Someone on here posted about how it had been tough to get through the first 50 pages, but then things really picked up, and I'd have to agree.
This might have been me. I definitely recommend reading the other two books. Played with Fire is not as good as the first, but I think the third one (Hornet's Nest) is. If you like Salander and Blomkvist at all, I think you'll enjoy them. The first Swedish movie is GOOD. Very true to the book (without delving too deep into that boring financial bullshit). I haven't seen the second one yet, but I want to.

I also liked The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, but I listened to the on-line audiobook and thought the reader was brilliant, which helps.
And I've just started Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater which was highly recommend by my friends.

Library card for sure! Then you can just grab a whole lot of books from the recommended shelf and ditch them if you don't like them.
