Hey there! Busy times at work + two weeks of houseguests = total blog neglect, go figure. I was also dumb enough to get my laptop stolen in Sydney last weekend; so much for photos from Western Australia (sandgropers!). At least most of my research projects were backed up.
Mercifully the computer's been replaced, and it feels good to get back to a ( Read more... )

Sorry about your laptop getting stolen, that really sucks.

Jess has a few photos of you and us and a Ferris wheel, but no sandgropers I'm afraid.

I think we talked about this a little already, but I use a Pentel Brush Pen. I used to use a nib for all of my inking years ago, by I found it not portable enough. I ink at work, and sometimes at a train station or whatever, so I like something I can ink on the go with.

Before the brush pen I was just using crappy artlines.

Aw, thanks. It sucks indeed, now I have to go all the way back to WA to take more pictures. (visiting the Perth Zoo again! Horrors!)-- I'd love to get copies of the pics Jess has, tho.
I'm still with you on the brush pen, I love them dearly but I think I beat mine up too much to get a fine enough line to crosshatch.

You made it to the zoo? Next time we'll take you to the aquarium, maybe?

I'll get Jess to hook you up.

These are great! I'm seriously considering getting one of those pens.

YES DO IT. You can draw rapidograph-thin lines for 1/10th the price. True they're a little less portable, but if you like a clean, crisp line it is freakin' heavenly.

My husband has a fauhawk. (;

Seriously, I love rapidiograph pens, the smallest ones, and then I painstakingly thicken the lines until I like the size they are. OCD OCD!

I hereby grant Josh a Fauxhawk Permit, on the basis of his being a 1337 haxx0r/ professional geek (and thus entitled to ridiculous hairstyles), QED.
Mmmmm rapidographs. It is like having a Fabergé egg habit, though, they are so expensive and the little wires clog up in days. (I used to spend hours in high school painstakingly dismantling, cleaning, and reassembling my rapidographs; it was like the art nerd version of shop class)

It has long been a dream of mine that we will someday live in the same town and you can raise wee silk worms and then I can make yarn from their cocoons! Well, maybe not "long been", but at least since I read this rad article! Doncha wanna be a silk farmer with me???

DELICIOUS. Who wants wriggling, finger-sized larvae? My treat?
God, maybe that's what they're supplementing the algae with in BSG. Two great tastes that taste great together!

Much props for the good looking nib work. I myself am not quite tuff enough to draw with such, and am stuck with brushpens and microns. I look forward to someday being old-timey, though.

Ha, thanks. They're not much harder than brushpens! If you can wrangle a brush brushpen (instead of a fiber-tip one like the Pitt Faber-Castell pens), you can totally handle, say, a Hunt 512. :)
