Showered with Positive Energy

Apr 19, 2010 16:19

I've had good days and bad days recently, in terms of how I feel (thanks to the accumulating effects of pregnancy). Saturday was one of my best recent days, in part because of a baby shower thrown for me by my College Roommate and my sister. The event was held at my College Roommate's apartment and included a variety of friends, both new and old.

The shower in pictures. )

Looks like you had a wonderful time. I've never had a baby shower and I'm always very jealous of all my American friends who get to be spoiled rotten! What a lot of wonderful gifts and support.

Is it an exclusively American tradition to have a baby shower? I didn't realize that. Guess I am lucky!

I think it's gradually creeping out elsewhere because any excuse for a party, but it's definitely more expected in the States where it didn't even occur to me in the UK and none of my British friends have ever had one.

I know you're in New Zealand now, but I forget: did you grow up in the States, or are you a Brit?

The great thing about baby showers, besides the party, is that they give you a head start on the sorts of thing you need to take care of your baby. They typically tend to be bigger, therefore, for first-time mothers.

It was nice, especially since I haven't gotten out much lately to do anything social.

Sounds and looks like you had a great shower. Awesome! Like you I am just sure I could never eat anything shaped like a baby.

It just didn't seem right, especially in front of everyone! The cupcake was delicious, by the way.

Aww, thanks! I haven't posted too many pictures of myself lately because I'm a bit self-conscious. It's nice to hear the compliments!

Pregnant women are beautiful. You should post more photos - I promise you, you'll be stunned when you think back at just how big you got and how quickly it went away again. You forget so much, it's nice to have photographic records.

Well, when I say I haven't been posting many photos of myself, that's not entirely true. I have been keeping a weekly record of my belly bulge here:

I'm thinking I'll probably do it post-birth for a while, too, just out of curiosity!
