------------------------------------------
Three weeks ago Clark Kent had saved the world. Again.
Right before he had left, his best friend, Chloe had given him one of the most shocking kisses in his life.
"I might never see you again" She had said right before she had ran at him and jumped into his arms and kissed him.
Chloe had kissed Clark many times over the years, but this time it was been different. She wasn't drugged on love gatorade. She didn't have an alien parasite running around her body. She hadn't been hypnotized and she wasn't trying to come up with a cover story for them snooping. She had given him a kiss because she wanted him to know she loved him.
The shocking part wasn't that Chloe loved him. The shocking part was that Clark, for the first time (himself not under the influence of anything as well) had kissed her back.
In those few moments, and a million and a half others he had spent replaying the memory over and over in his head in the Phantom Zone, Clark realized that he loved her too.
After he had returned from the Phantom Zone, Clark had gone to Chloe, waiting to see if he hadn't dreamnt the whole thing. She had told him it was just a kiss. A plain ol' "It's the end of the world, as I know it (and I feel fine)" kind of kiss and anything he had felt in it was only coming from that.
"We were stressed Clark. That's all it was." She had said, her eyes had becoming better at masking her real emotions in her old age. "Happens to people all the time in life or death situations."
* * *
Knock. Knock.
Chloe opened the door to her dorm room and stared at him with sleepy eyes.
"Clark? Why are you...? It's 4 am."
He just stood there for a moment, silent. His eyes taking in her sleep messed hair and pj's of an old Smallville "Crows" t-shirt and a pair of plaid pants. Her face was free of makeup and there was a wrinkle line from the pillow case pressed into her forehead. Chloe looked beautiful.
"What do you want, Clark?" She asked him, exasperated with his waking her and his silence.
"You." he had said it softly almost as if he had been testing his voice.
She sighed at him and made to shut her door on him.
"No you don't Clark."
He stopped her closing door easily with his body and came into the room.
"Chloe, its been three weeks." He walked right up to her, towering over her. Any other female might have been threatened by his huge form and backed away. Chloe stood her ground. "and I still can't get you or that kiss out of my head."
Chloe opened her mouth to ask him what he meant by that, but the words never got past her lips. Clark cupped both sides of her face, and covered her lips with his. She couldn't respond at first because of shock. He opened his mouth a little wider and she felt his tongue brush against her bottom lip, and she whimpered softly. He pulled back to rest his forehead against hers. Clark was panting.
Clark never panted.
"The world isn't ending, I'm not under any stress, neither of us is under the influence of anything animal, vegetable or mineral." He looked her deep in the eyes and saw her eyes widen at his words, "And Lana is the farthest thing from my mind."
Chloe kissed his cheek tenderly. He closed his eyes at her action. It was familiar and gentle. It made him think of home. She was his home. If only she could believe it.
He felt her lips dragging across his cheek to stop and hover above his own. He opened his eyes and saw her eyes were locked with his.
"Chloe, please don't kiss me back if you don't mean it." He couldn't seem to swallow. All she would have to do is lean forward just a little bit and he would get exactly what be wanted and longed for.
"I need to know this counts. That this is real." Clark's words were so soft it was like a whisper against her lips. I need to know you still love me.
"It's real Clark. " She smiled against his lips. "It counts." Her fingers slid into his hair as she lightly brushed her lips against his. "I assure you, it most definitely counts." I do love you.
