Oo! How old is that? (No clue here).

How amazing it flies, it looks such an odd shape.

And why does it have a target painted under its wings?

That isn't a target, that's a national emblem (UK) in roundel form.

I am assuming you mean a Sopworth Camel (picture isn't showing up!).

It's amazing what people sell on eBay!

I nabbed the picture from eBay, maybe that's a blocked site where you are? Anyway try this: http://www.1917sopwithcamel.com/

Woot! Given it was designed here I don't think it would dissolve, especially as if you were to get oit surely you'd build some sort of shed or hangar for it.

Seagon: "We must build some form of rude shelter."
Blodnok: "You build the walls, I'll write on them!"

More the case that some sort of environmental control would be needed beyond a hanger e.g. temperature and humidity. My parents neighbour had some sort of air-conditioned plastic bubble for his beloved sports car.
The current location of the plane appears to be in the south-western U.S.A., a good preservation environment

I think the museum style storage is to make maintenance easier given that the airframe sat in a barn for 50 years, and after all apart from the engine and cowling it is all just canvas & dope over that.

Still neither of us are likely to get $750,000 any time soon let alone the costs of shipping it over, learning to fly, storage so on and so forth. Mind you I'd have thought Mr Jackson would have snapped it up. Apparently he's letting the NZ museum have the LotR exhibiton for 6 months for the price of an authentic Camel engine: they reckon that's a bargain compared to what New Line charged them last time!

It's beautiful! If I weren't an utter physical coward (and a cheapskate), I'd want to learn to fly something like that.
