Exasperated? No, Natalia was beyond exasperated, she was ready to stop the car and have Olivia walk herself to the courthouse. She loved the woman, she really did, but Olivia managed to push all her buttons at once. She sometimes wondered how she fell in love with the other woman, but she did. She was exasperated the night before; everything went downhill from there.
Natalia had suggested staying the night with Olivia, since Rafe and Emma were at the Beacon, but the other woman had other plans. It confused her why she was being asked to leave, but Olivia’s incentives inevitably gave her the answers she needed. The incentives that enlightened her only exasperated her: get Rick so she could persuade him into letting her leave and talk to Mallet, Marina or Frank and find out the time Krista’s arraignment and where it would occur. What started to send Natalia over the edge was that everything Olivia went through, physically, she wanted to leave the hospital and risk her health to see an arraignment her sister probably did not want her to observe.
“Health, ha; I survived last time, I’ll survive again. I will be there for my sister whether she likes it or not and whether you like it or not. Are you willing to deny me from supporting my sister?” Natalia rolled her eyes as she recollected that failed argument the night before. She really questioned how she would survive the onslaught of two adult Spencer women, not one, two. Two brick walls... Lord, please help me, she sighed as she continued to drive to the courthouse. She was less than surprised that Rick allowed Olivia to leave, but it did surprise her that Mallet, Marina and Frank refused to tell her the time of the arraignment for over an hour. One hour of pure convincing, and everything possibly underhanded, Natalia had used. The constant refusal made her want to pull her hair out, but she did not give up and she eventually received her answer.
She spared another glance at Olivia and found her possibly asleep in her seat. She could take a detour and drive straight to the Beacon to let her rest or better yet the farmhouse, but would she be able to do it?
“Don’t you dare think of driving elsewhere,” Olivia firmly said, though her eyes remained closed. Natalia turned her gaze back to the road and released another sigh; things were simply not in her favour. She turned and pulled onto the sidewalk, finding a parking spot after she made sure it was legal to park there, and parked the car. She shut the car off and turned to her passenger, only to stare at her. Olivia slowly opened her eyes and collected herself. She furrowed her brow when she saw Natalia staring back at her as she unbuckled her seatbelt and sighed. “What?”
Natalia stayed still, but she blew out a frustrated breath, saying, “If you do anything, I repeat anything, that makes things worse for your sister or yourself, I will drag you out of the courtroom and take you back to the Beacon, got that?” Olivia raised her eyebrows and nodded, knowing very well that if she chose to argue with Natalia now, things would get out of hand and they would be driving to the Beacon before the arraignment even started.
They exited the car, walked inside the courthouse and headed straight for the room where the arraignment would take place. When they stepped inside the specified room, they were shocked to find so many people inside. Olivia and Natalia’s eyes opened wide when they were sure that half the town was present. They saw the Cooper, Spaulding, Lewis, and Boudreau families as well as several others. It looked as if almost every seat was taken, but they managed to take the free seats beside Frank. Awkward, only a little, but it was fine nonetheless.
Whispers scattered itself through the air of what appeared to be a now densely populated courtroom. Olivia scanned the room to see who else had arrived, but only found random strangers and she swore she saw a camera. She clenched her jaw when the idea of someone taping the arraignment crossed her mind. She started to clench her hands into tight fists when she started to actually process some of the words being passed along in the courtroom. Lies, they’re all just lies, Olivia thought to try and calm herself, but she knew her blood pressure already started to spike.
“Please calm down.” Olivia flinched at the sound of Natalia’s quiet voice and hand on her arm. She looked over at the other woman and saw imploring eyes turned to her. She slightly nodded her head and looked straight ahead to try and calm her nerves. She turned her head to the prosecution and found Doris along with Alan Spaulding beside her. She quickly turned away when she saw a smile cross Alan’s lips; she was ready to wipe that smile off his face.
A door opened at the front and everyone’s eyes were locked on who was walking through it. Olivia took a deep breath when she saw Krista walk out with Mallet handcuffed to him. She bit the inside of her cheek when she saw how much worse the bruising became all over Krista’s face. She was glad, though, that her sister was out of her torn clothes and into different and clean ones, looking better put together instead of the horrible mess she was before. She felt Natalia take her hand and she suddenly released her breath, unaware at how long she had been holding it. She dared not to look at her best friend; she kept her gaze directed at her sister.
Krista allowed her eyes to travel around the room and was amazed at how many people arrived. It was an arraignment that she was sure no one knew about, but apparently striking the mayor gathered a lot of attention. She smirked as she wondered how everyone seemed to know that this arraignment was about to take place, but it amused her that so many people found out and nearly filled the room. She glanced at the prosecution and saw the sympathetic smile Doris had while she saw the smug smile on Alan’s. Should I be surprised? Maybe he’s the one who attracted all this attention. Yeah, probably, he wants to taint my name, I can see the headlines now “Renowned Doctor Assaults Mayor and Security” - bastard.
“Are you okay, Krista?” Mallet’s voice pulled Krista out of her thoughts. She looked up at the other man and nodded as she continued her way to the defendant’s table. She continued to look around the room and recognized nearly half of them, while others she wondered how they arrived there. She started to take her seat beside Jeffrey, who made an exception to act as her defence attorney, but decided to spare another glance to the crowd. She narrowed her eyes when she saw Olivia and Natalia beside Frank and his family. Her gaze quickly fell upon Frank and all he did was shrug and give her a sad smile. She looked back at Olivia and saw the worried look on her face, but she could see the frustration in her eyes. She remembered those eyes; those were the eyes of someone who wanted to protect a loved one, but failed. Oh Olivia...
“Didn’t I tell you not to tell her when my arraignment was?” Krista questioned as she took her seat, watching as Mallet unlocked the cuffs between them. She saw the nervous look on the man’s face and deeply sighed; some kind of tactic had been used to extricate this kind of information. “All right, speak up, what did Olivia do?” Mallet raised his eyes to woman beside him and saw the determination in Krista’s eyes.
“Natalia; Natalia called us and... it’s Natalia!” Mallet answered back as he turned his eyes over to the stand in front of him. He could feel Krista scrutinizing him, but he forced himself to keep strong.
“Gus Aitoro’s widow? As in, Natalia Rivera the woman who is best friends with my sister - that Natalia?” Mallet only nodded. Krista craned her neck to find the woman and saw her holding Olivia’s hand, trying to soothe her. “Cause she’s cute, that’s why you let the info slip?” Mallet tightened his lips together and remained quiet. It only made Krista chuckled as she turned to the judge’s stand in front of her.
“All rise!”
“Let’s play some basketball,” Krista muttered as she stood up.

The entire arraignment had Olivia lost in a sea of confusion. She was sure that Krista would serve jail time for assaulting Doris’ bodyguards, but that was not the case. As soon as the hearing began, Doris approached the judge and apparently the charge of battery and assault to her and her party had been dropped, but Alan’s charge remained standing. She needed to know why Doris allowed the most significant charges to be dropped because she was sure Doris had no idea who Krista was, or at least she thought so. Though, Alan’s charge did not surprise her; it was Alan, it was typical. She knew he hated Krista and this was an example of his hate towards her.
She was sure that Krista would plead not guilty, but that was not how it went. Krista pleaded guilty but with reason and it seemed that another hearing would be underway, but that was not the case either. The judge appeared to want this case over and done with; this was not a normal arraignment at all. The judge heard the reason as to why Krista did what she did and it explained why two other charges were brought upon her.
Krista sat in Towers while she stirred the martini that sat in front of her, quietly staring at it as the olives glided along the surfaces of glass and alcohol. She was glad that she the chief of Cedars allowed her to take the rest of the day off; a seven hour surgery before lunch, a short consultation after lunch and a four hour surgery after that. Her body and mind were exhausted; some surgeries being so tedious. She smiled to herself that she would only be handling consultations the next few days.
“Krista!” she jumped at the call of her name and nearly tipped her martini glass over. She shook her head as she turned to the voice and found someone she was not expecting at all.
“Elizabeth Spaulding, where have you been,” Krista grinned as she stepped off her stool and hugged the other woman tightly in her arms.
“Come on, Krista, you know you can call me Lizzie.” Krista chuckled when Lizzie tightly hugged her back, pressing a kiss on her cheek. She pulled away and looked at her friend who was positively glowing in front of her.
“I know, but for formality sake. So, who’re you with, I doubt someone like you is here alone.”
“Of course she wouldn’t be here alone - with you of all people either.” Krista cringed at the sound of the voice, recognizing it all too clearly. She looked up and forced herself from rolling her eyes when she saw Alan. Only Alan could make her blood boil so easily.
“Alan, hello again,” Krista greeted, trying to keep any kind of venom or sarcasm from leaking out of her mouth. She saw the other man wryly smile at her.
“Krista, hello once again- are you here to corrupt my young granddaughter again?” Lizzie turned around and looked up at her grandfather, unimpressed by his words.
“Nah, I think you’ve already done that,” Krista sarcastically replied back as she placed her hands on Lizzie’s shoulders, keeping her gaze up at Alan. She saw the steely gaze being placed on her and she knew battle would begin. She moved Lizzie out of the way and behind her, knowing all too well that being caught in this cross fire could cost her.
“You turned her against me with your ways. You are a sick little girl who should stay away if she knew what was good for her,” Alan sneered as he walked closer to Krista.
“You turned her against you all by yourself. I’m not a sick little girl, maybe you’re a sick little boy that needs some help,” Krista sternly whispered back when she found herself eye to eye with Alan.
“You are disgusting for what you did back then. I’m surprised you’re even renowned for what you do; do your patients know what you do at night? Do they know who their doctor is? Do they know who their doctor sleeps...?” Lizzie gasped when she saw Krista slap Alan across the face, temporarily stopping his verbal assault. She could see Krista’s body tremble after the action and she could hear the laboured breathing from the other woman.
“My personal life is of no concern to anyone but myself. The fact that you use it as some kind of ammunition against me shows me how immature and underhanded you are. What I did back then didn’t concern you and whatever happens now definitely does not concern you,” Krista strongly stated as she gave Alan one more glare before she stepped around him to leave. Unfortunately, she was less than lucky.
“You do not walk away from me,” Alan gritted through his teeth as he grabbed Krista’s left wrist, forcing her to stay put. Krista turned around and angrily wrenched her arm away.
“I walked away back then, I can certainly do that now. We have nothing to discuss, so my being here is unneeded,” Krista replied back before she started to leave once again. She managed to take one step away, but her wrist was caught once again. Without thinking, she swung her right hand and forcefully slapped who she thought was Alan. When she saw who it was, she gasped and covered her mouth; it was Doris Wolfe, the town’s mayor. Doris’ security detail immediately took to her side and tried to apprehend Krista, but she tried to break free to make sure Doris was all right. Blinded by the sudden rush of emotion, Krista started to go against the security’s movements. She heard a quiet laugh and turned to Alan, finding a grin on his face.
“You are such an idiot sometimes.” Krista narrowed her eyes and was ready to take after Alan, but one of the bodyguards stopped her and she shoved him away. That was not the smartest move since the other bodyguard started to throw a punch at her and she ducked, shoving him away, but then everything started to spiral out of control when Krista found that she was defending herself from Doris’ bodyguards who started to physically tried to take her down. She called out to Doris, but saw that she was lost in a daze and she saw Lizzie being held back by Alan; she was practically helpless.
Fists flew at the bar of Towers and so did bodies. When Doris managed to collect herself, things had finally fallen out of any control. Blood started to fly everywhere, bodies flew everywhere, hell even food flew everywhere. One of the bodyguards somehow managed to fly over the bar, one of the bodyguards managed to break Krista’s arm while dislocating her shoulder at the same time and it seemed that the fight would be endless. Doris was more than glad when the Springfield Police arrived; Mallet and Frank leading. They managed to break up the fight; all three left with a broken bone and several cuts and bruises. Everything was agitated, there was no way a jury would convict Krista of anything.
Olivia shook her head as that story had been explained. She knew Alan to be devious and downright evil, but she had no idea that he would go so far. The judge seemed to have bought that story and the fact that Doris was willing to support it made it more believable. Alan was less than pleased when the judge decided to pass a sentence in the same afternoon; the sentence being a $100, 000.00 fine as well as 120 hours of community service. The fact that the sentence was so light appalled Alan, but it gave a breath of relief to Krista and whoever supported her.
As soon as the hearing had ended, Krista found herself engulfed in a sea of hugs. Though, she was in pain for most of them, she was as glad as she could be since that she was free. She reluctantly hugged Olivia when she stepped to her, but she felt happy when she sensed Olivia’s relief. She faintly smiled at her, but quickly turned to hug Natalia who approached her.
“I’m glad that you’re free,” Natalia whispered as she carefully hugged the still injured woman.
“You’re lucky that you slipped through this.” Everyone turned around and saw Alan staring at them. Krista smirked and shrugged, wincing when a sharp pain ran through her shoulders.
“Leave her alone,” Lizzie stated as she walked over to Krista and hugged her. Krista smiled as she hugged the other woman back.
“Thanks, who knows what I would’ve said.”
“I would’ve testified against him if there was another hearing,” Lizzie replied back, watching as Krista nodded back at her.
“I know you would and Doris would’ve done the same. All I have to do is pay a fine and do some community service, that’s pretty good.”
“Come on, we have some forms to sign and some things to clarify,” Mallet piped up as he placed his hand on Krista’s back, ushering her back to the room from whence she came from. “We’ll be back in a little bit.” Everyone nodded back and watched as Krista, Jeffrey and Mallet headed to the door to the back rooms, disappearing through them.
Natalia looked up at Olivia and saw the soft smile on her face which made her smile as well. She was glad that everything went well, despite being unusual. She was shocked at Krista’s testimony, unable to comprehend that Alan did what he did and said what he said. She knew Alan was unkind, but she knew not the lengths he would go to. What he could have said to Krista that said the woman off went through Natalia’s mind and she wanted to know why Alan said those things. What did Krista do that caused enough tension between them? Natalia had so many questions and possible answers to them, but none settled in her mind since Frank appeared in front of her, looking at her.
“Natalia, can you do me a favour?” Natalia willed herself not to look down as if she did not want to look at him. Things may have become awkward between them after what happened with Doris and her security detail, but it seemed that time had healed some wounds. Or maybe it was one person that pulled all these families together.
“It will depend on what it is; what favour is it?” Frank spared a glance at Olivia and saw the insecure look in her eyes before he returned his gaze on Natalia.
“Can you please take in Krista in the farmhouse? I don’t want her to be staying at the Beacon.”
