I see this more as protectionist than outright racism/discrimination. Taiwan, as a country, is small. Our population is small and therefore our entertainment market is small too. If our entertainment market becomes more saturated with Korean (it used to be Japanese) idols/dramas/whatever, our entertainment industry suffers. So in a sense, I think this is logical to protect our industry. But I mean this is something that is hard to protect since there is the internet.... THAT BEING SAID, Taiwanese cinema has gotten better as popularity in kdramas skyrocketed. So I think that is definitely a positive, in terms of finding another way of showcasing our entertainment industry since Taiwaenese dramas have gotten less popular/profitable. I love kpop and kdramas too!! But I do worry, probably on a nationalistic level, that our dramas/variety shows suffer a lot and we will lose value in investing in home-grown/local entertainment.
When Taiwanese dramas go as far to have Korean actors who don't speak Mandarin, dubbed over, playing Taiwanese people, it is a little intense. Taiwanese idols can barely get on the cover of idol mags anymore...just saying, I can understand the economic reasons for demanding a bit more balance, especially for a place that used to make good money exporting their dramas to other Asian countries.
well, finally. when i went back to taiwan this summer, i was not happy to see so much korean content on tv. :| though i also criticize taiwan for always using the same group of idol actors for their dramas, therefore i don't bother much with twdramas either.
i think this is a good idea b/c it's kinda crazy to how much korean content is on taiwanese channels these days. i have a cousin who doesn't know any taiwanese celebrities and has been living in taiwan her whole life. idk i'm disappointed b/c she only cares about korean idols .__.
kinda switching from television to music, but taiwanese fans really need to stop criticizing their own artists for being to ~kpop like~ b/c i really want some new taiwanese idols/artists than the current ones now.
i also think taiwan needs more new idols. all the popular ones right now are nearing 30 or over 30. there needs to be fresher/younger faces in the industry
I think they just mean that... well I honestly can't remember the last time a new idol group came out in Taiwan that was notable.
I think the key to Korea's success is the constant massive flood of new entertainers. Before anyone can get bored of the current idols, new ones come out to keep you eating it up. Makes it really easy to overshadow the Taiwanese old-timers. Plus, teenagers now have less fondness for the idols everyone else fell in love with 10 years ago. They are out of their age group and not playing the same roles anymore. I have a hard time imagining thirteen-year-old girls swooning over F4 members playing... fathers.
how come there are always 1 000 000 plus comments when there are posts talking about koreans?
this is the reason why i quit arama. this type of news and discussion is highly annoying. some people like korean shows, some people prefer taiwanese shows some people think it is racist, some people think it is not
its called LIFE, for everything, there will always be people who agree and disagree. its no use discussing back and forth and back and forth ACROSS communities, over a gazillion posts, about a mute point.
