i've never been able to hold a long e-mail conversation without becoming bored or having the conversation go stale, but blogging, like you mention, is far more interactive and dynamic.
i also like that it is asynchronous. i can come back to check what people have said, and continue the conversation on my own time.
which doesn't quite jive with "real-time" blogging activities, but maybe they would be more fun?

off the top of your head, do you also use blogging for the reciprocal of the events? (e.g. to go find interesting writing or fun parties) do you go out to blogs seeking these things, or let them come to you in your friend's page? i guess i'm asking, is your blog use people or topic centered? (as if that were an either-or question...)
