Popcorn Disaster
Fraser sadly surveyed the scene in his apartment. Pots and pans were everywhere, there some very odd bits of residue on the counter and popcorn was strewn on every available space. Fraser sighed as he picked up his bowel. It was going to take some cleaning up and Ray would arrive at any minute. Fraser heard the sound of the door, he didn't have time after-all.
“Benny, what are you doing?” Ray asked, coming close to look at the state of the kitchen area.
“Making popcorn, Ray,” Fraser answered, realising there was some stuck to his sleeve.
“It looks like a bomb's gone off in your apartment.”
That was an accurate assessment, Fraser thought. “I had a few mishaps, Ray.”
“Do I want to know?”
“I don't know, Ray, do you?”
“Rhetorical question, Fraser.”
“Ah.”
Ray sighed. “Okay, what mishaps were there?”
“Well, first of all I don't have microwave,” Fraser said. He'd wondered about the efficiency of buying one. He hadn't been able to borrow one form his neighbours either.
“I know that.”
“Yes, well, this popcorn is designed for microwave cooking.”
“So you improvised?”
Fraser nodded. “Yes, Ray. Unfortunately I couldn't get the temperature correct.”
“And it blew up?”
“Yes. So I adjusted the temperature...”
“And it blew up again.”
“Yes, Ray. It took me a few more attempts to get it right.”
“How many?”
Fraser looked embarrassed. “Seven.”
“Seven? How much popcorn did you buy?”
“It was a value box, Ray.”
“Why did you buy a value box of popcorn anyway? And why did you buy one you had to cook in the microwave?”
“I didn't have to read the packaging, Ray, it was an impulse buy after you mentioned we were going to watch a movie tonight.”
“Exactly I said watch a movie not blow up your apartment.”
“It;s intact, Ray, just a little...” Fraser looked around. “Messy.”
“There's a hole in this pan,” Ray said, picking one of the pans up to examine it.
“That wasn't due to the popcorn.”
“You know most people would have given up at the first three tries.”
“Popcorn is important to the experience, Ray.”
“We never eat it all, Fraser, you just...lick it. Off me.”
Fraser did enjoy that. “I know, Ray, but the flavours have to be right. For the whole experience.”
“Of movie watching?”
“Yes, movie watching.” Well it was mostly movie watching.
Ray reached into the bowl with the finished popcorn in it. He took a handful and tasted it. “Mmm this isn't bad, Benny.”
Fraser licked his lips. “Your fingers are sticky, Ray.”
“Do you need a movie before you lick them?”
“No, Ray, after-all there are lots of different experiences.”
“I think we should have one now,” Ray said, holding his hand up.
“I think you're right, Ray,” Fraser said taking hold of Ray's hand. “The popcorn will go cold, though.”
“We can heat it up...later.”
There was no more hesitation as he began to lick Ray's fingers, the flavour wasn't at all bad. Fraser felt happier about that. He just hoped that Ray wouldn't be too concerned by the lack of a movie as he realised that in his haste to sort out the popcorn he had, in fact, forgotten to rent one.
