[Day two of Shikamaru's exploration of Luceti sees him walking alongside the river, hands in his pockets. He stops when he sees the woman, about ten feet away.]
Are meditation and yoga just real popular hobbies around here?
If they're as common as you make them sound, I guess that would be hard to get used to. Closest thing this place seems to have to that is the journal system.
Heh, whatever my boss feels like telling me to do, most days. I've done everything from excessive amounts of paperwork to managing a bunch of little kids. [Which is perfectly true, seeing as the ninja from his world are also charged with simple public service tasks meant to keep the village orderly and happy. There's just, uh. Been a lot of assignments that involved national security in between.] It's basically a lot of freelance work for the village I live in. It's troublesome, but it pays the bills.
Paperwork sucks. [With this agreement voiced, Shikamaru decides to take a seat on the grass.] Congrats on finding a way out of it. Is that it's only perk?
Oh damn. Seriously? [He actually wasn't expecting that. Must've been some interesting robots, he decides.] Yeah, antiques really sound like they'd be less of a pain after that.
[April stares at the river, dreamily. This might be the closest she's gotten yet to a detached frame of mind as she thinks about the troubles with Second Time Around.]
It'd go a lot easier if the Foot ninjas weren't trying to get into the habit of burning down the store.
[He considers several reasons why a group of ninjas might be interested in someone who sells antiques. It's not that hard - some of the most valuable items you can think of can end up in the simplest of places. There's also her last job to consider; if her boss wanted to kill her, there's a possibility that they were working with sensitive information.
Women are always so troublesome. April, you are an interesting one.]
That's a damn awful string of bad luck you have there.

[Yeah, that is sort of adorable, because she would never have pegged him for a preschool teacher or whatever.]
I've always hated paperwork. That's why I went into robotics research a few years back.

The downside is the part where my boss tried to kill me. Now I'm in business for myself: antiques.

It's the irony that surprises him more than the admission itself. Despite that though, it's still a horrible thing to have happened to the woman.]
Oi, oi. Ninjas?

Actually I love men in masks, but these guys are the worst.
