Re: "The purpose of science in our collective philosophy," I think it's fine to use science as a guide for executive decision-making, and I support scienctic inquiry whole-heartedly, I just fear for those who want to take exciting preliminary research and act on it as if it's more than preliminary. The article didn't go into specifics about the types of scientific advancements that should be studied. Perhaps they're just talking about getting Freud out of there, and research on Freudian techniques have been going on since, well, Freud. Like anything, I think common sense is a useful gauge for the purpose of anything in society; common sense would, of course, understand the merit of moderation.
