Ron had gotten used to the South Sector of the city by now. He may live in the North East sector, but the building and patrol he often found himself in laid south of it. He didn't particularly enjoy the trek, but it was enough to get him out and moving most days. Which, really, was just what he needed with the happenings of the last few weeks. It felt weird not working with Usagi and having not exactly been informed of the patrol partner for the day. Of course he should have realized, but Sokka was in the north sector.

Not that Ron had much time to think on the other male. Really, the pain from that still existed quite wholly but the person Ron was made finding out about his brother's death a bit more forefront. It changed his perspective over certain matters, certainly, but it meant he needed more things to do to keep from two thoughts that so blindly liked to be entertained ( ... )

Well. Sokka had a hard time not stopping in his tracks and abandoning the patrol all together. Every part of him screamed that spending several hours in the company of a man that was very unhappy with his presence was anything but a good time. But... but Ron seemed to be making an effort not to pummel the young tribesman, so he figured he could make an effort not to leave Ron make the patrol himself.

His eyes flicked to Weasley's wand only briefly before Sokka turned his gaze back on the ginger and shook his head. "No, I've only patrolled in the north," he replied, uneasily tugging his club from its sheath. What was he supposed to say? Sokka had no idea. He thought to apologize again, but just bringing up what happened between him and Hermione was certain to make Ron even angrier, so he skipped the apology and went right straight to the awkward silence. He hated this. All circumstances aside, he wanted to grab the other boy and tell him there were much bigger, harder, tougher ways to wreck a relationship, but what room did he have to ( ... )

"Brilliant," Ron muttered in that tone that said it was anything but. Had Sokka ever even really come down here? He knew he hadn't until joining up if he had to, now the action was just routine. Well, it wouldn't come in useful at all in some of the trickier areas, that was for sure. So, thus, Ron took a calming breath before managing about anything halfway decent to say. "Bout the same," he said lowly, giving a shrug of a tense shoulder.

"No," he managed quickly to Sokka's question, "--mean, she seemed all right last I checked." Seemed. In Ron's opinion he had no right to determine how anyone was, that was up to them to tell the other person if there was. Besides, as far as he could tell she was about as a decent as things got around here. Which, really, was about the most anyone can ask for ( ... )

It was little comfort to Sokka to think about making it through patrol, mostly because of his company, but he figured Ron had it right when he suggested they move quickly. He did his best to keep pace with the redhead, but managed to hang back a half-step for his own sake. He wondered just how few words they might be able to trade, but his nervousness created an urge to babble that Sokka guessed would do him no favors ( ... )
