Summary: Kisame and Itachi have been partners for five years. But they haven't had much time to catch up since Kisame arrived. It's about time they actually sat down and talked.

Kisame was o the type of person who needed compliments and platitudes of love in order to survive. In fact, if he ever got more than the most basic of impressions that someone valued his presence he might keel over from shock. Truth to be told, he was both seeing a side to Itachi here that he had never experienced and he was learning exactly how things like the concept of 'family' worked - all from someone who he had always looked up to in a few ways. Itachi the big brother and friend had somehow replaced Itachi the killing machine ( ... )

Itachi glanced up as Kisame entered--he didn't need to, he could recognize that chakra signature anywhere. It was, however, nice to actually look at the tall swordsman in person. Itachi set his PCD down, leaned his elbow on the table and rested his chin on his knuckles, staring directly at Kisame for a moment, face blank, expressionless.

"Kisame." Neutral tone, and then just the slightest quirk of an eyebrow as he lifted his chin and jerked his head abruptly, indicating the chair across from him. "Sit down." Oh yes, this would be more like the man Kisame knew. Abrupt and commanding and imperious. It was odd enough on Itachi's side to have opened up as much as he had, it was probably downright strange for Kisame to see his partner not attempting to kill the girl who presumed to steal his coat, or putting up with people talking to him casually, or teenagers teasing him ( ... )

Kisame had been intending to simply wave to Itachi before heading out, but when he instead heard his partner using that imperious tone and all but commanding him to stay a slow smile spread over Kisame's face. That was the Itachi he was used to hearing, and he complied with a slight nod as he sat down. He was curious as to what Itachi might want, but he didn't show it ( ... )

Itachi took the PCD as Kisame handed it over, setting it on the table in front of him and beginning to key in a number of things on both his own device and Kisame's. He paused for a moment, raising an eyebrow and glancing up and a little sideways a Kisame, his expression completely blank, tone utterly deadpan. "Did you want a kitten too, Kisame? You should have said. I could always end your misery if you like. I am sure I could dispose of your body before dinner, though I might have trouble explaining the blood on my apron." He looked back down at what he was doing with the PCDs, letting Kisame retort as his older friend wished to. Morbid for a joke? Maybe. But they were both fairly morbid men, in their own right ( ... )
