Rebuilding Block Castles features Remus and Sirius struggling to prove that two men can be as good parents as the tradition family. It's a decent length too, ringing it at 38,146 words.

Rainbows is part of the Veil of Possibilities series. It's probably not quite what you're looking for, but it touches on the subject.

oh, the first link was absolutely spectacular in every way. funny and charming and a good family story.

and the second was so amazingly well written. i have chills. there are no words.

As for fics incorporating the struggle for gay equality, I can't recommend woldy's Sailed on Shooting Stars (Three Weddings and a Funeral Remix) enough. I think it's close to what you're looking for, though it more concerns itself with Remus' struggle to accept that he and Sirius will never have equal rights.

I'll get this out of the way first so everyone can groan and the writers can throw things at me. The match to Cate in fluff, banter, style and quality is franticbabbles! They even remarked on it at the time that their puppies were the same but Franticbabbles added more explicit sex.
There are a handful of her stories still open at fictionalley>, although these are lower rated ones, I adore "Sprog of Prongs", which is a James finds out story in which he is a) surprised and b) knows he needs a bit of distance and time to adjust.

BUT - Here are fluffy stories that I love:
A Few Minor Alterations by passakiss
The Drumming Story by rosemaryandrue
Humbugs and Fairy Lights by jennuine
The Traitor by fullmoon_dreams

And lest you be disappointed since all of those are low rated, try Slackened Ties by anniesj. While her writing is primarily remembered for the sex, there is sweetness too, especially in this one.
