IT'S JUST THIS: Confederate History Month is a month annually designated by several state governments in the Southern United States for the purpose of recognizing and honoring the history of the Confederate States of America. The month is especially designed to celebrate what Confederate Vice President Alexander H. Stephens famously described as a "new government . . . founded upon exactly the opposite idea [from that of the United States in 1776]; its foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth." April has traditionally been chosen, as Confederate Memorial Day falls during that month in many of these states.

Aren't... "Whatever History Months" supposed to be about bringing attention to history that might otherwise not get taught? Cause, uhh, I'm not an expert, but the Confederacy got plenty of exposure in my history classes.

The South takes a really irrational amount of pride in the Confederacy; it's a little awkward and embarrassing even to bear witness to. I think they like to harp on BUT THE NORTH WAS JUST AS RACIST THE WAR WASN'T ORIGINALLY ABOUT SLAVERY which is ... semi true, but still. That passage you quoted? wince-worthy.

Calling the north on it's racism? Okay! I'll be right there with you. Saying that the Confederacy didn't lie its foundation on slavery? Straight up false history.

The Confederacy: a bunch of rich white men who got a bunch of poor white men to fight and die for the rich people's right to own slaves because at least being white meant the poor white people were better than somebody.

The Union: a bunch of rich white men who got a bunch of poor white men to fight for them in the name of FREEDOM!!!! but made sure to still treat non-white people and people who weren't the right kind of white (ie Irish, Polish, etc) like shit.

LOOOOOOOOOOL Also women don't exist I guess hahahaaha. Though, I frankly admit I don't know much about treatment of some European ethnic groups during the civil war. I know more about it post Civil War and can talk about it best with Irish, Russian, Italian and Jewish. Not so much with the Poles.

Also women don't exist I guess hahahaaha.

They were at home, taking care of shit and working their asses off for half the wages a man would have gotten.

As for the European ethnic groups: well, the Irish were especially hated.

Unless they were rich.

I know that Irish were hated, just don't know the extent of it during the civil war period. :p

Confederate History Month: Because if there was one group that needed more positive representation, it's white men who glorify a racist past by lying! (This is itself a hideous lie).
