I'd like to think I was a fair hand at it. Of course, my usual partner was maddeningly good, so who can say?

I've played it a few times before, but my brother always won. Supposedly it's a good game to play to consider battlefield strategies.

A valid comparison. Not a perfect one, but the applications are certainly there. I find the movement of the different pieces to be most indicative, personally.

I suppose that's true. Battles are rarely so straight-forward, and there are always things going on outside of the battlefield. They might not be right in front of your eyes, but they are completely capable of turning the tide.

No, I haven't played it. There was never really anyone around to play it against.

...I see.

Well then, why don't we give it a try? If there's anything you don't fully understand about the game, I'll teach it to you.

Sure, sounds good to me. I could use something to do here that isn't work or training.

Perhaps there are other games that more than two individuals can play at the same time. I think Rika would approve of people continuing in the tradition of her games club.

Plus you're right. After a while, there really isn't very much to do on this island. Although...

What exactly is chess? Aside from being a game I mean. XD

It's a game of strategy that uses a checkered board. There are several different styles of game pieces representing kings, queens, knights, rooks, bishops, and pawns. Each of the pieces have different rules for movement.

Ah! I believe I know of a similar game by a different name. The pieces had different names as well. But, perhaps such a game is universal across worlds. I would not mind learning your version.

Really? Do you remember the names that were used in the version you're referring to?

That is an interesting coincidence... I wouldn't mind teaching you, although I'm not a particularly skilled player.

Chess? I'm afraid I'm not good at such games... A friend of mine enjoys them much more than me.

Honestly I'm not a very skilled chess player, either, but it's the first thing that came to mind.

Are there any games that you are good at? I'm attempting to compile a list of possible activities. The more items we add to the list, the more likely it'll be that we can find a game that suits everyone - or at least a majority.

Well, to be honest, I'm far better at games that involve physical activity.

Those are called "sports", aren't they? I remember I played one at the beach involving a ball and a net. They remind me a bit of training exercises, and yet they seem to be completely different.

I don't know how good I am, but it certainly won't hurt to try, right?

I can't think of any reason why the experience would be painful.

It's a figure of speech. I don't think chess can actually be physically harmful unless you're playing a really wacked version or it something.

"Wacked version"...? No, I believe it's a rather typical board game.
In any case, I believe I understand what you were trying to say.
