ponderings + elementary thoughts

I met up with a friend for lunch today who I haven't seen all summer. She's doing her MA at the university we both went to for our undergrad, so she started classes yesterday. We ended up walking to a coffee shop near campus and chilling there for a while. It was pretty weird. My university is right downtown, so I pass it a lot when I'm in that ( Read more... )

ONLY THE BEST FOR YOU, MY FRIEND. ONLY THE BEST.

I'm going to watch Elementary purely out of spite; I have no actual interest in it.

It took me a long ass time to stop missing college. I'm still kind of homesick for it, tbh. I'm still putting off adulthood, but it's not the same~

oh gosh I adored the Elementary pilot backwards, forwards, and sideways. I need more like I need oxygen dfkjghkjdf I just really felt drawn by it. I'm in love with Lucy Liu and hoping probably against hope that Joan gets a girlfriend BUT THAT'S ANOTHER STORY ENTIRELY...

I just really enjoyed myself while watching it. I thought it was an excellent pilot and I already love Sherlock and Joan (SANS ANY ROMANCE PLS AND TY). I just love that Sherlock is intelligent and Sherlock-y but not perfect. Undoubtedly Moffat could never take his Sherlock off his precious pedestal and apologize to someone. :|

You have an icon and everything already! They exist! lol Joan getting a girlfriend would be so A+. PLZ CBS GODS PLZ. Not that I'm exceedingly hopeful.

Yeah I liked it. And I quite liked JLM's Holmes because -- yeah. He was a dick but he actually had to apologize for it. And I like that... I dunno I like that so far their relationship seems to be closer to this:

Yes, right. I have a lot of hopeful and positive feelings about this show already so I am just desperately hoping it keeps getting better. And that fanaaaaart. I love their relationship so much and it's only been one episode!

I think my favorite thing about the Elementary pilot was that Sherlock was flawed and the show acknowledged it. Not like "isn't it so cute what a dick he is, but really it's part of his ~grand plan~ so it's all ok!". Elementary Sherlock was sometimes a bit childish-like when he crashed Joan's car. And the show just let it be a flaw instead of it being part of a plot to catch the crook.

And ofc Joan was FLAWLESS.

I'm not usually that big on crime procedural shows, but I thought Miller and Liu were so much fun to watch that I want to keep watching.

I've been out of school for... gosh three years now? And every fall I still feel a little weird about not going to class. It's not as strong now that I have a full-time job, but it still crops up every once in awhile. Like you I don't really miss the reality of being a student - like, I enjoy that my evenings are weekends are mine and not devoted to schoolwork - but I do miss that feeling like I was going places and I still had time to make adult decisions instead of feeling like OH CRAP REAL LIFE ALERT. Also kind of miss... using my brain. I don't feel really mentally challenged, but I suppose it's up to me to fill in the gaps by...reading...and...stuff.
