Dear fandom, on the list of "things we don't need", "a male companion as the only companion" is RIGHT THERE NEAR THE TOP. I hate that this is even a possibility. God forbid one of the leads on the show be a woman and god forbid she occasionally seem like she might possibly eclipse the male in importance for a story or two. Doctor Who has enough

Sure. Rory is so superior, he does all these things, that women cannot... Sure.
And still, there's a feeling that Rory is a background for Amy. Just another tin dog, with no other ambitions but being Amy's boyfriend and a nurse.

I appreciate your posts about Doctor (Moffat) Who, but seriosuly, what's wrong with a male companion (there was Wilfred already! Or maybe he's an alien?) and it was good. It's not like DW with a male companion suddenly becomes misogynistic.

I don't want a male companion as the only companion, is all I'm saying. I don't want a full series of Doctor + Dude. I don't want the show to get rid of its lead female role for... what? So little boys have someone to look up to? BS, they have the Doctor, and the female companion. So that there can be a ~bromance~? Pass. There are plenty of shows, especially in the sci-fi genre, that are heavily male-lead. The nice thing about Doctor Who is that it always has a lady front and centre. It has enough issues as a show with female representation without getting rid of them entirely.

It's immaterial now since we know JLC is the new companion. I wouldn't mind if, like Rory, JLC had a boyfriend or brother or friend they pick up who travels with them as well. But I don't want it to be ONLY the Doctor and a guy. If people need bromance that desperately they can watch one of the billion other shows with two male leads.

I rarely read Donna fic though I love her 'cause it all seems to be shipper fic, so I will totally check that out. (That second fic is super awesome.)
