I can relate since I lost my father when I was just 9 years old. His death was a huge shock since I had just talked with him on the phone a few days before his death about seemingly normal things we wanted to do.
All I can really say is that the pain never goes away and you shouldn't try to force it away either, but there are people who love you and loved your mother. The best thing you can do is remember her and the times when she wasn't suffering and that she wouldn't want you to put yourself through the same.
