Kdramas have ruined my life

Jun 18, 2011 17:09

My grandmother is turning 90 today, so I'm on my way there, but sitting in the back seat is booooring even though I have movies, books, games, etc to distract me. So instead I'm trying out the LJ Beetle app (tried out LJ's own app, but holy crap did that thing ever take up space!)

So whatever, let's talk about kdramas!

I only watched 49 Days for the Scheduler because I'm a major Il Jung Woo fangirl (I even slogged my way through Iljimae 2 for him and I am just not a sageuk fan). I must admit that I was bored through the first couple of eps so after that I just ff'd to his scenes. :/

I'm definitely going to give City Hunter a try, it sounds like something I'd go for.

I feel like 49 Days is probably one of those dramas where if you connect with any of the characters, you're probably going to love the hell out of it. I just couldn't find anything any of them did interesting or gripping, so I got bored (but my kdrama obsession levels are pretty high at the moment, so sticking it out for 20 episodes really took very little effort even when I wasn't that in to it).

City Hunter really is turning out kinda awesome. It has actually plot! That's not just there to service the 'ship! I know - crazy, right? I am a little worried about how they're going to keep this up for 20 episodes, though. I feel like we're right on track for a tightly plotted drama if there were 16 episodes to the season, but what will they do for those extra 4 episodes? I'd hate to see it derail, because so far it's all kinds of amazing.

I don't know what's wrong with me, I'm not a romantic movie/TV show kind of girl, but Best Love has ruined me! I'm up to episode 14 and every scene is just so poignant. I think I'm also enjoying it this much because I read the episode recaps over at Dramabeans and their analysis always makes the show seem better than maybe it is (explanation of metaphors, parallels, etc.). Though I can totally see this stuff being too cheesy for North American audiences, for instance.

That Best Love/Pasta mashup is so well done, oh my god!

I tried one episode of Playful Kiss, but I think I'm done with shows focusing on teens. Ah well. There's a million other shows I can watch, haha. ;)

Also, now I'm on the hunt for good Cha Seung-won shows, so I'm thinking either City Hall or Athena. Not sure about Athena, but we'll see.

This made me laugh, because why in the name of all that is holy would you ever start to watch kdramas if romance isn't the draw? Heh, it's the only thing most of them have going for them.

I also found a Best Love/Secret Garden mashup. Just as brilliant!

Haha, let me explain how I got into it. I first watched the jdrama Bambino, recommended to me by a friend because I like watching anything related to food. That show was almost completely devoid of the romantic aspect actually. And then I stumbled upon Pasta, which also involved food. I didn't expect the romance aspect, but I went along with it. I got hooked, big time. :P

I already used to listen to a bit of kpop, but now I'm also learning Korean words, looking up Korean restaurants in my area... it's a sickness, I tell you.

Mostly OT, but since you're an Android user extraordinaire: I just got a new phone with Android, and I'm loving it A LOT, and if you would please rec me your favorite apps, I'd much appreciate it. :)

Absolutely! I love talking about apps! (And getting app recs, so don't be shy, if you know what I mean.)

First off, the necessities: Advanced Task Killer (or any other task killer), so you can quickly kill apps that are malfunctioning/running in the background/slowing down your phone. I keep widgets on several screens.
Apps Organizer for organizing your apps. Great for stuff like games, cameras, etc. And I use the star function for my most commonly used apps: Flashlight, alarm clock, whatever game(s) I'm currently obsessed with, video player, tasks list, calendar, ereader, etc.

Other useful stuff:
Evernote. I love that you can make shortcuts to specific notes, so on my main screen I keep a shortcut to my shopping list that I add to and subtract from as I run out of stuff/go shopping. I also keep a shortcut to my note of books read on my "entertainment screen".
Jorte. My favorite calendar app, mainly because of the multitude of widget options, and the ability to sync with Google Calendar.
Dropbox. Useful because I work in the office ( ... )

Yay, thank you so much! I also have an iTouch, so the media/games stuff is probably gonna stay there for now [the screen is bigger :)], but the ereader and clocks are MOST IMPORTANT for when I don't have the iPod along with. :)

I just got the phone this past weekend, so far I've only installed very VERY basic stuff rec'ed by two RL friends [Twidroyd and the Tumblr app included], but a few I'm liking a lot:

- Dolphin Browser HD: liked it much better than the Chrome default. It has TABS, and hand gestures and a bunch of other fancy crap.

- Shush!: Turn off volume and it puts the phone in silent mode for a set amount of time.

- 3G Watchdog and APNdroid: 3G management, since I'm on a limited data plan.

I'll give your recs a test run, and I'll be sure to share whatever else I find. Anyway. Thanks again, this is most helpful!
