You're going to have to point me to RT whining about all this, 'cause I've missed it :P

Dismissing them out-of-hand because of the source can only be described as foolish, but RT's continued assertions, without proof, that only V/L 'shippers or only Logan fans see problems this season is just plain madness.

Word. To use an example, my boyfriend's nowhere near fanboy, and only likes Logan 'cause he thinks he's cute, but he had major problems with Duncan, and with V/D. Mainly because of TD's (lack of) acting talent over anything else. And if the non-fannish casual watcher notices it, that's a problem.

Well, the combined details of this post are scattered all over the place, but his latest thing, involving Lamb, can be found at rack_of_lamb.

I think that most people had a problem with, especially, Duncan this season. Duncan fans didn't like that the constant fake-outs and the inconsistent characterization. The non-fans were pretty much disliking the same things, with the added bonus of not liking the resolution to the story. It was just bad all around. And now it's (hopefully) behind us. =)

Although, to be fair, the current RT kerfluffle happened largely because a few fans started a campaign to e-mail Rob in high volume about adding Lamb as a main character. Apparently the original e-mail address was his personal address, which, while I understand that Rob invites a lot of interaction with his fans, I can't blame him for being snappish when he gets several dozen (at least) e-mails asking him for something that he hasn't got the money to give (if Lamb were added as an actual cast member, his salary would only be exceeded by Colatoni's) nor the power to grant. I'd probably be a bit nasty, too, if people were e-mailing my personal address. (I believe the one he had linked on his webpage was a separate one, so it's not as if he invited this to his own e-mail address, though apparently it's not hard to get ahold of, according to comments in the r_o_l community.)

Heh, I'm not even in fandom, but today has been nutty and interesting to read...

You know, for all that people defend it with "it's his personal e-mail", I don't think it's necessary to say anything at all. Seriously, why does he even respond when it's mainly just to be rude?

I really hope that someone soon tells me about a statement on his website claiming that he's "withdrawing from fandom to concentrate on the show". Because I think both fandom and the show need it.

Oh dear. Some people might like Logan because the character's actually well-acted, unlike certain other characters.

Also, the precipitation just never going to stop falling from the sky, is it? It changed from snow to water a short while ago.

Yeah. It's just too bad when he gets resentful because he created a character and couple that people respond strongly to.

I really hope he leaves us all be before he becomes embittered and decided to "teach" us about what to really think. I think that that's in part what happened with V/D, to be honest.

"stupid little fangirls who are too blinded by the twu wuv/character lust" is not doing him any favors.

Wow, is he really saying this kind of stuff? I'm so out of the loop here. And what's OAV and DR?

I think there are a lot of structural problems with this season that has lead to alot of disappointing stuff. I'm not a shipper of anything. I don't mind L/V not being together, because I like their performances and the drama they have going now. But D/V, they just never sold it. It never felt real. The beginning of season one, you could believe it because it was depenedent on Veronica's pain of being dumped for no reason. But they never showed us that their relationship was so beautiful and epic that it fit what they tried to sell us later. We never really saw much of it at all. Maybe it was Teddy's acting, but I think they also didn't give him anything to play there. It's a shame, because it's still a good show. But it's frustrating this year when last year was so good.

Okay, nevermind the first part, my brain just started working. One Angry Veronica is I think without a doubt the worst episode of VM. Donut Run was okay, but what really bothered me was the way we seemed to have jumped ahead in time and Veronica and Wallace never worked out their problems but are okay now.

Yeah, I think OAV is definitely at the bottom of the barrel.

I think that DR is an okay episode, if you totally disregard the rest of the season (it was the resolution of a story arc that didn't go anywhere and completely anti-climactic) and if you totally disregard any kind of common sense that makes it necessary for the father of a child to kidnap her before even trying to get custody through legal channels. I mean, even just going to court to get temporary custody while the dispute is on-going would have fascilitated the kidnapping scheme since he'd already have the baby and could just leave. I mean, the whole plot is just so very stupid as to be mindboggling.

Agreed. The only reason behind the kidnapping that I could see is that, with Duncan's violent medical history, and his parents in trouble for covering up a murder because they thought he did it, it's extremely unlikely anyone in the Kane family would be granted custody. Regardless, I don't see how Duncan thinks he can raise the baby on his own with no money.

Yeah, I agree. I think the problem here is that they're thinking they're a part of fandom, but they're really not, they represent the show. And as such they shouldn't have bad days (and if they do, they should shut the hell up and not say anything). I agree that MM's presence is creepy, but I also think that RT's is. They have no business being here and the sooner they realize that, the happier I'll be.

Is that seriously a direct quote from the guy who wrote that True Love Stories Between 18 Years Old Kids Never Have Endings? I'm not going to read the entire thing, but boy, should he shut up or what.

Well, when you put it that way I can sort of see it. ;-)

I'm not the kind of fan who will go to convention or even wants to meet the actors (seriously, when Pretty in Pink came out Jon Cryer came to Sweden and even though I was in the same room I refused to go over and meet the guy. I hate having that suspension of disbelief ruined). I don't want that, it's not what I'm looking for in my fannish experience. So having them invade my space like this feels extremely uncomfortable.

I didn't even read that many reports from Austin, only the ones that popped up on my flist. The less I know about how everyone is or acts outside the show, the better. I'd rather find out what RT thinks about his characters just by watching the episodes, and it's a shame he just won't let me. It kind of makes me want to e-mail him about it, but that would be breaking my own code, and I'm afraid he'll call me a stupid fangirl. Then I would have to bitchslap him, and that would definitely break the code.

I only read the ones I came across after DR had aired (I wanted to know the twist, but not everything), and I can't really say I liked it even. I get kind of curious about the process behind the creation at times, but I think RT has pretty much cured me of that with VM. The only problem now is that he's in my space and he Just. Won't. Leave.
