so last night I was having a nice little panic session in regards to my parents, esp. my mom, and money, and deven said why don't you just call your dad and have us sit down with him without your mom since he seems so on board with everything? so I did, but long story short my mom came along too and all four of us ended up in my dorm

The best advice with the FAFSA sitch is to go to the office in SS and talk to them. They helped a lot when Aaron and I first started talking about getting married because I was in a similar situation, but in the end didn't remember all that they said because my plans changed. Admittedly, the FAFSA office here sucks compared to NAU (which is where I was going at the time) but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they had face questions of the like previously and can help you with this one.

yeah, we went and talked to the financial aid people at asu before we told our parents that we were engaged. the most informative things that lady told us were 1. financial aid lasts the whole year; you can't "redo" FAFSA in the middle of the year, and 2. where to find an online fafsa calculator that'll give you an estimated EFC given some numbers. <-- it wasn't actually very helpful.
