Chapter 6

--- A little over a week later, on the bus --- Bam

A loud rumble awoke me from a sound sleep. I flailed my arms in fright, only to find myself now tangled in the covers. I soon came to and realized that the reason my bed was vibrating was because the driver had started the bus.

Leaning back against the bunk wall, I let out a yawn. Man, I’m tired.

Ville and I were up late last night partying with guys. Nothing like last week’s bar scene, but still crazy. I remember a bunch of people packed onto the bus, but everything is still a little fuzzy.

I rolled out of bed, falling onto the floor. Too lazy to get up, I decided to just sit there for a moment.

The bus was littered with plastic cups and liquor bottles. There was a bra hanging from the lamp shade. One of the chairs was knocked over on its side. Next to it, Mige and Gas were asleep on the floor.

Twisting my torso sideways, I looked in the bathroom. Burton had passed out in the tub. It was tempting to turn on the water, but I didn’t want to move, so he lucked out.

Ville lay on the bunk across from mine, making quiet little whimpering-snoring noises.

Okay, that’s almost the full body count, but where’s -

“Lily!” I shouted as two long lanky legs stepped on my head. Given that my skull isn’t exactly flat, he quickly lost his balance and fell on top of me.

We were a tangled mess of limbs, blankets and dread locks.

Laughing too hard to move, we lay on top of each other for a minute. Lily gathered himself together, “Oh sorry man. I didn’t see you there at all. After last night I’m not very aware of my surroundings this morning, you know?” he said through giggles.

“It’s alright - don’t’ worry about it,” I said.

Ville rolled on his side. “What’s all the commotion about? Can’t you see I’m trying to get my beauty rest?” he sleepily muttered.

Examining him I saw a knotted mess of dark hair and some very smudged black eyeliner.

“Hah, yeah I’d say at this point you could some more ‘beauty rest’,” Lily teased.

“Oh fuck yourself Linde,” Ville grumbled.

To think that these guys did this all of the time. How could they live like this? It had only been a few weeks and already my body was demanding some serious rest - and soon.

--- Same time --- Ville

Mustering up what little energy I had, I stood up and opened the bathroom door. A hand hung over the edge of the tub. I pulled back the shower curtain. Oh. Burton.

Stepping in front of the mirror I immediately froze in place.

Ew.

No way.

I looked down.

Yup.

I was standing in vomit.

I let out an irritated growl, “That’s it! No more! I’m sick of this! I need a break!” I lost it - completely. “We recorded for months, toured Europe for half of a year, we’ve been traveling around the states for weeks - I need to rest!” I barely believed the words that were coming out of my mouth. I never flipped out like this, but I didn’t stop…

“Everybody up! Right now! Everyone awake!” I yelled, clapping my hands loudly.

Lily turned away from the coffee maker in the kitchen to face me, looking a little surprised at my behavior. Gas and Mige stirred on the floor, directing their attention at me. Burton stumbled out of the bathroom with the shower curtain wrapped around him like a blanket.

“You scared me so much with all of your hollering that I accidentally ripped it off the hooks…” his voice trailed off as he held up the piece of plastic.

I snatched it from him, “This is what I’m talking about!” God, I sounded like an angry housewife.

Everyone, including Bam, looked at me like a bunch of confused puppies.

I took a deep breath. Calm down Ville, you’re probably just really hung over.

“Look,” I paused motioning my hand around the bus, “Look at all this.”

Still confused.

“Let me break this down. The past year has been crazy. What I’m saying is let’s find some place to relax, call Seppo and tell him to postpone the tour for a few weeks,” I explained.

No one said a word.

We all stared at the floor for a few minutes, and then Bam spoke up, “I know this guy in Colorado with a log cabin way up in the mountains. I could ring him and see if he’d let us stay up there for a couple of weeks.”

The guys looked at each other and nodded.

“I could use some rest,” said Mige.

“Ditto,” said Gas.

Lily and Burton agreed with the other two.

“Good then. That’s that.” I said with relief. I tossed a cell phone across the room, “Bam, call your friend, we’re going to Colorado.”
