Hello. My name is Ville Valo, as in the singer from the band HIM. I was murdered on October 28, 2009. A ghost just in time for Halloween. Who could ask for a more appropriate time?
I’m not sure what you would call this place I’m in. It doesn’t look like the stories about Heaven. No white, fluffy clouds. No streets paved with gold. No winged creatures, either. If it is, still no sign of the big man. And it certainly doesn’t look like Hell. It’s mild temperature, and the only pitchfork here belongs to my farmer neighbor. As for it looking like Purgatory…well, I’m not entirely sure what Purgatory is supposed to look like but the souls here aren’t under any type of purification.
So, I won’t call it any of those things. It’s really just an ideal habitat. You make it what you want it. Remember a good ice cream stand from your childhood, think about it enough, and it will be there for you. Perfection to your desires.
But I wouldn’t call it paradise, either.
If you weren’t quite ready to go when you died, as most murdered people usually are, you can watch the people in your life go on without you.
We all want to know who misses us after we are dead. Guess what? You get to know.
Really, this dying thing wouldn’t be so bad if I couldn’t see my loved ones grieving. My parents, my bandmates, good friends, and my lover of 9 years.
This day I’m looking down upon him as he sits with Mige, my best friend, and looks longingly out on the Helsinki skyline from the top level of a hotel. Mige places a comforting hand on a stiff shoulder. Bam speaks with a sadness so deep my heart aches with the need to reach out and touch him.
“Helsinki is crying tonight.” A pause. “It looks like rain, doesn’t it?”
xXx
So what do you think?
That bit of dialogue from Bam came from a song I learned about in my World Music class this semester. It’s from Japan and called Crying Nagasaki and those lyrics really struck me.
Comments are life. They brighten my day. Let me know you love me…or at least somewhat like me. =p
