Summary: He's always been a quick reader.
Author's Notes: I'd had the first little bit of this gathering dust on my hard-drive for a while, but it took tolkiens-realm's drabble challenge to get it flowing. This version has been extended into a double drabble to include Finduilas. They're all Tolkien's.

His sisters insisted that they were concerned for his happiness. It was not the first time they had used that excuse. As he recalled, they also claimed no ulterior motive other than the pursuit of making their little brother smile when they dragged him away from the library to introduce him to their friends, either. There was nothing inherently wrong with getting to know such people; for they would likely be numbered amongst his highest lords and ladies one day, but Denethor had little use for such pastimes. These people could be read like books, and he found their contents uninspiring.

Emeriel swore that it would be different this time. Her brother already respected Prince Adrahil. Surely, Denethor could find it within himself to respect the prince’s daughter, as well, if only for her father’s high opinion of her, if not her own merits. Thaliwen was quick to mention that the girl was said to have a clever mind and great beauty. Likely, they would get along quite smashingly. Denethor could only nod and smile in his sisters’ prescence. They would all find out the truth soon enough.
