yesterday i cried because i live in the country that houses the Ivy League. in my heart, after the top tier of sadness, the one where people i don't know suffer needlessly, comes the close (& not unrelated) second: the sadness of your values are not our values (!), the sadness of people are snobs about things that are not right, that are obviously wrong. instilled snobbery. my friend just got into yale & says things like "now i can be an old blue." your values, friend?
that was the most earnest, trite thing i've ever said. i hope.

At any rate, I might be living in New York this summer for an internship. Right now that's my top location, followed by Chicago and so on, and Portland is on my list too. How close is Reed to Portland?

and in terms of being ashamed of the college you go to, i just got back from israel. there is no W in the hebrew language. not only had all my israeli friends never heard of wellesley, they couldn't pronounce it either. to them, i might as well have gone to college in a distant, far away secularized galaxy. and in fact, their image may be rather precise.
