Day 2...The First $5.00

Jul 02, 2012 20:07

This morning, I woke up (at the unusually late time of 8:57am), made my bed, and looked at the white board, on my wall. 365 days, I thought to myself, as I looked at it. Not anymore! I grabbed the eraser, and wiped out that last digit. The big green "5" was no more! I allowed myself a moment, to bask in the glory, of it all. Still on my bed, I ( Read more... )

Oh, how I wish our grocery store was doing the $5.00 bag of groceries. I applaud you for your choice of what you purchased with your first $5.00 of this project. I know how good it feels to know that because of something you've done someone will have a full stomach instead of going hungry. Hunger is a real crime in this land of plenty where so many have excess and some have nothing.

Great second day.

Hugs,

Kae

Reading this note made me cry. It seems so lame to say, but sometimes, you forget that other people need help. In this society, all we focus on is ourselves. So this was a wake up call, and I think I am starting the project right, by using the first of my budget to help others.

Michael, this is such a great post. Yes, your $31 extra beyond the essentials really is a blessing that many others don't have. What a great way to lose the feeling of constraint by your budget--to know you have a little something to give instead of worrying what extras you may not be able to get yourself.

We don't have a Vons or Pavilions, but I just looked up information about our local food bank and addressed an envelope to send a check for a donation in your honor.

Also, I thought I'd let you know I thought of you when I was shopping for needed items at the supermarket this afternoon. When I passed the chocolate aisle, your experiment reminded me that I didn't really need any. :-)

I am so very touched that my entry today moved you, to stand up, and take a stand. I applaud you, for getting ready to send a check, to help others. And you are right. The knowledge that there are so many who are without makes me feel completely blessed, to be able to do this project. And, I can honestly think of no better way to spend the first dollars, this project allow me to spend.
