SVK #72: The Macaroni Mess

May 04, 2010 20:24

Because I never really grew up reading SVK that much, I always find these books a little weird. I mean, all my favourite Sweet Valley High characters are there, but they're...younger. It's like watching Muppet Babies, SVH style. It makes me uncomfortable to think that at one point in time, they were just innocent young children with exactly the ( Read more... )

Oh, it was the bird... isn't that always the way?

Great recap! I've never been a fan of these books either, but this recap really made me laugh :D

Yes, or the dog. The bird or the dog. Always.

Ehehehe, win for another Titanic reference!

This book sounds so silly but I think I would have loved it as a kid. I probably would have been inspired to make my own macaroni creations.

Really wish Bruce was in that class though! (if the ghostwriter remembered continuity at all, that is)

Excellent snark as always!

I'm super impressed that you always seem to have the perfect icon for my Titanic references!

I wish Bruce was in their class too, but that's because I am unashamedly in love with him, even as an eight-year-old.

Don't you love that they do nothing in school but stupid art projects? I kind of awww'ed at Caroline's doll because she has her mystery dolls, afterall, so it's sort of continuity? Maybe? If you squint?

Tom should take lessons from Kisho about how to be more stereotypical.

Right? All Tom did for his art project was glue blocks together to make a pyramid. At no point was pink paint, glitter, or bedazzling involved. Disappointing.

I don't actually remember hearing about how the twins only have one dimple before. Is this usual?

Maybe it's something they magically grew out of for high school? (Or started covering with make-up and never spoke of again?)

Somehow, they get into a paint fight with Winston.

Wait... you mean that AWESOME book cover resulted in a footnote in one chapter, and the teacher LAUGHS about it?! Where's the chaos? The punishment? The scandal?!?! Sweet Valley Kids, you have let me down.

The dimple thing seems like a slight imperfection to me. We're always being told about their perfect little faces, but I guess they don't have the Kristy Turlington symmetrical beauty we always thought they did. As someone with two dimples, I'm so shoving it in their faces.

Random Fact: People sometimes do actually develop/lose dimples over time :)

Fantastic snark, as always. (and my theory as to why Todd is no longer an artist is he's probably ruined his hands with all those mighty Toddpunches. He had to choose between two things he loved and art lost).

I remember there being fairly regular mentions of them having only one dimple (probably one so perfect there ceased to be need for a mate) in the books... I'm thinking maybe early SVH but I'm not entirely positive if that's the series it was mentioned in.

Art will always lose to Toddpunches. That's a Toddism for you right there.

Maybe his Toddpunches have become his new art! And his medium just happens to be the faces of the innocent.
