SVSY #4: I've Got a Secret

Nov 04, 2008 17:09

This is my first ever post! I'm rather excited. I'm a young Sweet Valley fan, and I grew up with the later SVH books, as well as SVSY and SVU - and the Elizabeth series but they aren't really worth mentioning. After finding this community I decided to relive my youth (as in, what I read six years ago) and order in some books from the libraries in ( Read more... )

Great job on your first recap!!!

Conner's diary entry states that he doesn't want Liz and Maria coming to the concert. He doesn't explain why he doesn't want Liz to come

Maybe because she's Liz! I wouldn't want her ruining any of my fun either!

Conner’s diary entry is stupid. He says that he’s just finished reading The Great Gatsby for English

Psh! Jess read that in middle school!! (SVT#115)

Jess read that in middle school? Wow, secret genius! *thinks about what she read at that age* Okay, we read Shakespeare so maybe not :P

Conner must have been shoved in the lowest English class because no other teachers could put up with his moodiness :)

Hey, great recap! I know what it's like to feel like there's nothing to snark. But u told the book's story well and had some great funny parts.

I like Jess in these books - she experiences life as a normal teen, not as a goddess.

Nail hit on head by you. Funny how when Jess is a sociopathic crazygal in SVH she's still way more likeable than Liz, and when they sort-of switch personalities in SVHSY...she's still more likeable!

Jeremy snaps back that it's his dad's - he didn't get handed a brand new car on his 17th. Me neither, Jeremy! I have a discount bus pass!

Hehe. I'm with you there. Even my dad's old car would be a step up from my bus pass! Although my bus pass is no longer valid now that I'm not a student. Okay, enough whinging, it would help if I got my ass in gear and got a license...

Will gets on the phone, pretending that he just got there, and is apologises for forgetting their date in a way which makes Melissa think that he’s lying. Melissa is upset because Will wouldn't leave his friends to come and meet her (I think ( ... )

Don't worry, I could read everything - I just got confused to start with as I was like "Wow, she quotes a huge chunk!" :P ( ... )

I quite like buses - after all you can read in a bus, but not while driving a car! :)

I've always liked buses for that reason too. That and when I've been at work all day (or just dragged myself out of bed in the morning, for that matter), the last thing I want to have to do is concentrate on the road, and the multitude of idiots that may be on it.

Reminds me why I hated and loathed that bitch Melissa!
The thing I don't get is why no one stood up for Jess in Senior Year, I thought all of the characters had more back bone than that. The old gang from SVH would of been fooled for 3/4 of a book then would of figured out the lies and took Melissa down...Dumb Francine...At the beginning of these books I like the realism, but by book 14 I was over that and wanting the escapism of warewolfs, vampires and holidays where I left my family for months on end and traveled to amazing locations:)

I didn't understand why no one stood up for her either - if some kids marched into my school and started ruling the place and calling the most popular girl a slut, I can't imagine everyone just sitting back and letting it happen!

I never read many SVH books as most of them were gone from my library by 2003 (when I started reading SV) but I still remember preferring the drama of SVU to the realism Senior Year. Who wants to read about the kind of stuff they deal with every day? Boring :P

Oh, I know what the problem is! The twins don't wear the Lavalieres of Truth anymore!

one of the girls makes fun of [Angel] for not going to college because he couldn't afford it.

Never mind the fact that the college he's deferring is an IVY LEAGUE UNIVERSITY, like. Dumbasses.

He immediately takes Jess's side even though he doesn't have a clue about what's going on. I want a Jeremy! :(

I always really liked that too. <3

"She had to start paying attention to little things like walking."

I now have this mental picture of her going to Ms. J for help. Walk like it's for sale and the rent's due tonight, Liz! :P

I just thought; Jeremy = Damon from SVJH? Jess falls for the poor guy? It's just like Conner = Sam from SVU, keeping the pattern of Liz falling for the slacker jerk. How original, ghosties!)

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I haven't read the first few books since I was about 11 so I can't remember much about Angel. But seriously, he applies to an amazing Uni and then is like "Oh, I can't afford it, I'll just not go"? Wouldn't he have thought of that beforehand? Or tried to get a scholarship or worked for the summer beforehand to get money? Whatever, it's Sweet Valley - it isn't meant to make sense.
