Maybe John figured that Jennifer's father would be better off in the long run having minimal contact with his selfish cow of a daughter? Or maybe it's easier to commit date rape when the girl isn't speaking to her father?

I wonder how they make decisions about bit characters taking on bigger roles in story arcs. Maybe when it came time for Lila's arc, they were sitting around trying to decide who should be the lucky evil guy, and someone skimmed this book and went, "Holy shit, it has to be this guy. Check this out. He's a freak."

Two and a half years late, but I think they had a wheel that they spun to decide which character to feature and hook-up with. After the almost date-rape, it took John off the wheel. But his name probably kept coming up when they spun the wheel so they just decided to kill him off.

Clearly all the fermented grapes have clouded my memory (don't drink and read snark, kids!), because I totally thought that it was JENNIFER who came to Lila's aid and admitted that John raped/tried to rape her. Upon further investigation, it appears that her name was Susan (and now I have "Shoop" in my head). Apparently Jennifer was able to skate away untouched because she was such a hateful troll of a girl. This leads me to the conclusion that John only attempts/date rapes girls who are made of awesome.

I think that Jennifer at least played a part in "Don't go home with John". Maybe it was Susan who stepped up for Lila, but I think someone (Liz?Jess?Lila?) tried to talk to John's earlier girlfriends, amongst them Jennifer - who didn't want to step up. But I don't remember if she was raped or if there actually was nothing to say. I think they had just broken up, and she had done it because John had started acting so weird?

Lila hates how everyone looks at her differently. She thinks she's going to have to transfer to a private school. Jessica is horrified by the very notion. What would Sweet Valley High be like without Lila!?! Determined to help her friend, Jessica goes to talk to Jennifer Mitchell, who you'll recall recently broke up with jerky John. But Jennifer sort of blows her off and says she doesn't know anything.

She was basically a bitch to Jessica and said she didn't believe Lila. So she's officially dead to me, as if she weren't already after this book.
