Ugh, wtf. I can't take hearing all this bullshit about immigration laws in the States anymore. What the hell is going on lately?

It's the fact that they act like undocumented immigrants are some sort of sub-human that gets me the most tbh. it's really fucked up.

I am pretty much in complete agreement with you. I hate the way this country treats immigrants, as if everyone here isn't from somewhere else, and I say this as someone whose family came over on the freaking Mayflower and one of 'em married an Indian. That doesn't mean I have more rights or that my European ancestors give me more claim than anyone else. It's such bullshit. Argh. I hate Americans sometimes.

This stuff really overwhelms me. The abuse that immigrants get from the system is bad enough, without all the harassment from the police and the way a large portion of the population treats them like they shouldn't even exist. But they're totally cool with them when they're cleaning their houses or taking care of their kids. Urgh.

This is so ridiculous. This guy risked his reputation and, possibly, his life to do the right thing and this is what he gets? He's a hero, not "illegal." And I totally agree with you on the "illegal" status. No one deserves that title, we were all there once.

And I'm sick of Arizona's bullshit, don't even get me started. As a person who's lived with diversity her whole life and loves it, Arizona as a whole pisses me right the fuck off. I think the legislators need to give people the right to walk up to them and go "Oh, you look kind of like a raging douchebag. Mind if I see your papers so I can return you to the jerk store?"

...I'll get off the soapbox now.

Knowing far too many people from Central and South America who have felt the need to leave everything and risk their lives in order to find work, I, needless to say, hate the laws in Arizona. It's racial profiling. I'm a near-fluent Spanish speaker, but I would NEVER be asked for proof of citizenship...I'm blonde. And it's just so offensive.

Not to mention the fact that they're not a drain on social services, they keep our economy (and the economies of Central America...a full 1/4 of El Salvador's GDP comes from remittances from folks in the US) afloat. And it's ridiculous to think that we'd punish someone for calling the cops with deportation.

I'd be curious to hear if Charlotte has a separation ordinance, wherein cops are not allowed to ask about immigration status. Because that would give him the grounds to fight this. I just hope they "accidentally" let him out of jail or something. Seriously. UGH.

I totally agree with you on this one. I am really sad and disappointed to see this news comes from my home state, but I'm not shocked because the way that the hispanic population is treated around here is really disgusting.

I work for a farmer and with horses so I am around lots of hispanics, some that are legal and some that are illegal. I completely agree that we should be treating them the same as everyone else and helping these new immigrants to become citizens and not using them and then throwing them away.
