i feel like i've been away for like a month. and i am extremely tired.
yesterday, i left for dc in the afternoon. the amtrak terminal is fancy, i liked the music. it felt like disneyworld or something. and for the amount i paid for it, it should have :p i think i like trains better than planes. anyway, after a three hour journey i got to dc, figured out the metro with the help of a really friendly security dude, and got to the shuttle stop. now i assumed the shuttle would just take me to the med school, but no, it was for everyone all over the area, so i ended up in the middle of nowhere with my suitcase since the med school had been the first stop. luckily there was this nice old guy to direct me, and then this cute middle-aged couple from colorado/texas who helped me get to my hotel. which was awesome, by the way. biggest bed EVER. with five pillows, ranging from very firm to very light and feathery. and neutrogena products for the bathroom, which i promptly stole, along with all of the marriot stationery in the room. i explored the hotel, which was connected to the conference center/student center, and generally looked like a really confused person, but it was still a good time. and i watched 7th heaven (which was reallllllly awesome, lucy sucks at being a pastor. and martin is being punished by god for losing his virginity before getting married. because really, if you do that you're either going to go the simon route and have a possible std and marry some crazy girl, or your'e going to potentially get some girl pregnant with your super sperm). and of course after i take a long shower, i have a plumbing problem, where my stupid toilet ran FOREVER, and resulted in me tying up some stuff in the tank with the shower cap so that i'd be able to sleep. i'm a very creative plumber.
the interview day was LONG and full of speeches and crazy people, but all the interviewees were really nice and we all really bonded, especially me and this girl from urbana-champagne, who i hung out with, and her mom too, at the end of the day. there were six guys and six girls and it was really funny how we kept very segregated. the interview went really well, we actually talked extensively about knitting and big families. i'm really lucky i've been clicking really well with my interviewers. then illinois girl and i and her mom went back to the hotel, lugged both our things together on my rolling suitcase to the capitol area, since i wanted to do something touristy before heading back. we took pictures of various things and had a great time and her mom bought me dinner which was really sweet :) my train ride back took like a billion years because some other train broke down and i got home at midnight and that was really no.
today i was supposed to wake up at 6:30 so i'd be able to leave by 7 to go uptown and have breakfast with this girl for my next interview. except i must've not heard my alarm because i woke up at 6:57 and got ready extremely quickly. again everyone was amazing, especially the students, and my fancy lunch was good. and we got cool pens. and my interview went really well again, since my guy is from wyoming and likes opera and reading. we ended up recommending books to each other and talking about ballroom dance. interviewing is yes. i like how only one out of all the interviews i've been invited to is out of new york. there goes my plan to move away...
